Connecting Heater hoses to Holden 202 conversion

Hi, I know this isn't for the purists out there, but my wagon came with the Holden conversion already done and with an engineers certificate for the original conversion from way back in 1989. (was originally a rover 6)

I'm working on getting it roadworthy and one of the last things I need to do in the engine bay is connect the heater hoses to the motor. Does anyone know which hose goes where? Would anyone have some pics of their setup?

Also, this wagon already has twin thermo fans fitted in front of the radiator but the engine still has its original fan...is this right? it seems to me that the fans would be counter-acting against each other.

Any advice would be welcome (ditching the holden is not an option at this stage)

Heater hoses can be connected at either side of the front of a Holden 6. Thermo housing and water pump on the RHS, or the two fittings on the LHS of the thermo housing will run the heater if neither fitting is blocked with rust. Blow through to check. Whatever side you use for the heater run a hose linking the two ports on the other side as a bypass. Holden made hoses for both sides to bypass depending on the vehicle application.

With the engine running and the thermo fans turned off, feel for the air blast behind the fan on the engine side, being careful not to get your hand too close; then check the front of the radiator to make sure it is not pushing air through the radiator. Sometimes fans can be fitted backwards on the pump pulley hence the need to check that the fan is sucking air into the engine compartment. Install a fan/radiator shroud if the bloke before you didn't bother.

Similarly; check the thermo fans with the engine fan disconnected i.e. that they blow into the engine compartment if they are on the outside of the radiator, or suck if they are on the inside,

    Cheers Charlie

If the thermos work (in the right direction)ok I'd ditch the fan
There was a few different hose locations on water neck for holden 6 here's mine , otua a HT I think

I remember soldering on new tails to heater core (13+ years ago) but cann't remember if they were wrong size or leaking

Thanks Brett, that's perfect, is your radiator and fan shroud holden or rover?

onnect the top hose from the heater to the spigot on the water pump, this is the suction side and will bleed air out of heater core, check inlet manifold for blockages if connected. Return the heater to the thermostat housing. I have tried all other combinations and this worked the best on my 202. My mate owns the vehicle now and loves the heater!

this is a landrover radiator & shroud, moved foward & cut into crossmember (butchers- ), not the way I'd do it, though it never runs hot. I have a wreck also thats got a holden (torana ?) radiator and thermo- seems to be a better option as hoses match better & crossmember not modified

Don't use a torana radiator! I had a new one that fit nice, looked good, but cooked so many times. The rovers run at too many revs to handle the small radiator. I am running a g60 patrol 4 core with only one themo fan with my 179 and the temp stays perfect no matter what i do to it. (only over heated once in peak hour standstill traffic because the the thermo relay died)
