    Gear Boot Cover

The Gear Boot Cover on my 2001 FL1 is showing signs of wear and I wish to replace it so I ordered a leather one on Fleabay from the UK which arrived today. Does anybody know how to replace it, it is apparent the gear knob might have to come off, but I can't see any sign of a holding screw and the knob itself does not appear to screw off.
The transmission is the Jatco five speed unit???

    The old Haynes book says,

    removal
with the selsctor lever in the NEUTRAL position pull the knob straight upwards from the lever.
starting at the front edge, carefully prise up the selector indicator assembly to release the spring clip, and slide the ass forwards.
    disconnect the plugs.
    refitting
    reconnect the plugs
refit the ass to the centre console
MOVE the selector lever to the PARK position, and refit the knob.
do not attempt to fit the knob with the lever in any other postion or damage will result.

    Hope this helps
    cheers

Thanks for the tips on this, I have managed to get the gear knob off, but I am still having trouble with the "Selector Indicator Assembly" I can lift it up at the rear about 30mm and I can move it forward about about 10mm and I can feel that it is spring loaded but it will not release. I have moved it every which way but it won't release. Don't want to use too much pressure for fear of breaking something. Any further Tips???
