    County fuel tank options

    Hi all,

    After i have done a bit of research, I would like to hear from anyone who may have come across any other tanks than Frontrunner, Dolium, LRA, Long ranger, Brown Davis, are there any other options? I would prefer to keep main tank and add auxilliary/s under sill so can retain sway bar at rear. I would like another 70 litres, and don't want to fill from under drivers seat as I will be fitting a non standard seat therefore less access to under seat storage etc.

    Or, has anyone added a main longrange tank that hasn't interfered with the sway bar too much? Dropping it 3" like some of the manufacturers of tanks suggest isn't my idea of a good thing.

    Mulgo does a sill tank (pair). It fills from a Y piece in the main filler. I don't have one (yet) but they certainly look the goods.

    G'day JC,
    Like you I wanted to keep the rear sway bar and good rear clearance so opted away from a bigger main tank. I have a 60L reserve sill tank under the drivers side which has a filler just behind the rear door in the same spot as a series. This is pumped into the main tank via a T piece on the breather of the main. It doesn't even have a gauge. Pump is one of those cheap Facet electric ones bolted onto the chassis. You can hear it ticking when it operates and you know when it is empty by the faster ticking noise. There is a cheap plastic throwaway filter in line just before the pump. I usually let the main get pretty empty then pump the aux into it. Can get a few pics if you need them....Regards...Brian

    Yup, saw them thanks Flagg but did you notice in the pics they seem to be a little vulnerable, and the inlet pipe seems quite exposed? Does anyone here have better pics of the Mulgo tanks?

    yeah I thought that too. I had a look at them at his workshop and again today at the LROC show.. they come to just above the the bottom of the chassis (lowest point), and would be level to my side steps (at the edge).

    Then again, I've got dents in my chassis..

    I guess it depends on your style of driving. I prefer the sill tanks to the quarter panel tanks as I have an Isuzu and it means I can have two separate systems (in case of bad fuel, leak, blocked sediment tank etc) but yes.. there is the risk of punching a rock through one.

    Note that the Mulgo tanks don't hang as low as other sill tanks I've seen, so don't judge them from pics of other brands.

    Hi Brian, as you can tell, I'm getting over excited about the 110 already, planning, planning and more planning

    Is your tank a built one, or did you make it yourself, if not, who made it? Yes, Pics would be great

    I will probably replace the main tank with a new standard one, if it is in any doubt about rust etc. Loks leak free at this point intime though, and considering vehicle is pretty much rust free I'm hoping it hasn't got any issues beltween tank and cradle etc. I would prefer gravity feed, and split fill from main but can't have everything I suppose....


    I have a stainless water tank I am going to fit on the LH side sill, about 45l. Ex D1 so will need a slight mod to filler neck and mount at rear.

    Also, do you think an army aerial mount will support my Barrett HF auto tune? Or should I fit it to the spare wheel carrier.

    I saw a great one today. It was mounted at the back left of the 110. But on a retractable pole which can be pined in an up or down position. Best of both worlds - protection when you need it and range when you need it.

    It was on the county when I bought it. Mine was one of those Bicentennial County dualcab's so I guess it was needed towing those big 5th wheelers trailers. I'm guessing it is a prefessionally made one, and has a bash plate under it. I will get a few pics tomorrow and upload. Not sure whether you could make it a split from the main filler as it is pretty low and it might drain back to the main when you are on an uphill climb which probably isn't a problem unless the main is full then it would come out the main overflow. The army aerial mount should be fine although I opted to have it out in front where I could see it.

    I recall seeing a series Landie station wagon that had a 70 litre army type under seat tank that had a filler hose fitted to the front top, the hose then extended up the inside drivers front wheel arch & had a filler cap in the front guard. The reason was also due to a non standard drivers seat. Obviously the fill neck was higher than the top of the tank, but I never asked how backpressure was dealt with.
    Of course there might not be much room for a fill cap if a snorkel is fitted.

    As an aside, my County trayback originally had Rangie seats- the whole seatbox was lowered, & access to under the seats was via hatches facing the front floors.

    You didn't mention Mulgo?

    I have this set up in my county with the 36L second tank in the rear quarter,I put a tap in the small tank to main tank line so I keep that as a reserve,the filler pipe that was supplied was for a defender filler which was too small,so I made a larger dia. one,I still have the pullout filler and screen.As yet I haven't hooked the sway bar on anything,it doesn't hang down that much,the rear of the tank is about level with the bottom of the towbar(defender one).
