    Hi Lift Adaptors

    Hi people,

I've seen these: Jack Adaptor suit HiLift-LR - Dolium Pty Ltd

Does anyone know who else makes/sells Hi Lift jack adaptors for the holes in the bumpers of defenders?

    I've got a TJM jack

When I bought my County it had a commercially made adapter with it. But the rod is too big for the crossmember holes.

My Dad made one years ago when he was learning to weld; used a bit of steel channel and a rusty old series 3 axle cut to length with a splattering of bird poo and better weld.

Opposite Lock sell the Dollum one's too

At $65ea they're quite exxy for a couple of bits of welded steel

Now I just have to find out if they even fit onto the tongue of the TJM jacks

The other option that I'm considering is making up a high tensile chain and shackle setup to pass through a recovery point and form a strop to lift with.

TJM "used" to sell them over here in the UK, and as with the Hi lift itself, it was cheaper than the genuine Hi lift stuff...........BUT the tongue on the TJM is not rated to be used with the adapter so it was removed from sale over here....Only the Hi lift (genuine) is rated at the tongue to use the adapters for defenders etc.

It really depends on what you want to use your hi-lift for. They offer a good winch kit but the most flexible item we use is their wheel lifter which slips into alloy and steel rim slots nicely and allows you to lift a corner with reasonable safety given how unstable these things are. If lifting a front wheel you need to be prepared for the wheel to spin and self centre. If you have two front recovery points then using a bridle you can lift the front of the vehicle as well

Overall a hi-lift offers some interesting recovery options but only in skilled hands. They bite very quickly

    Regards
