Spare tyre cover, bolt on plate type

Another dumb question, but putting one of those plastic disc spare wheel cover things on. Fits fine and all that but wondering do you just put the spare on, then the plate then bolt that up? Just seems like a lot of pressure on the plastic disc? I was thinking maybe you put the spare wheel on and do up the nuts as normal, then put the plate on with extra nuts to hold the plate on, so all the weight isn't on the plate? Next question, does anyone know what size wheel nuts to buy

If it's like the Discovery 1 covers, then the wheel is held on with 3 regular nuts & the cover goes over these & is secured with 3 thin nuts.
There's also plastic washers used under the thin nuts.

Nuts as in the 'thin' nuts?
If so, check with a LR dealer or parts supplier & ask for the one's off a D1.

Have a look at your carrier though, just to make sure your studs are long enough. I'm not familiar with Defender carriers so check that first.

They're long enough for about another 1/4" thread, just enough for a lock nut

    The parts you need are:
Nut MXC7887 - about $10 each from LR
Washer MXC7335 - about $0.60 each from LR

Your local dealer can get them in overnight.
