Checkerplate the same colour as the car?

Just wondering if anyone has fitted bonnet/wingtop checkerplate and painted it?

I personally can't stand the look of shiny checkerplate, but can see its uses so was just wondering how noticeable it is when painted.

    Cheers.

Our is black and so is our car, does that count??

After trying to find pictures that shows the checker plate and finding it hard, I guess to answer your question, it makes it blend in a lot and not stick out like your saying.

I guess it might also depend what colour we're talking? Sometimes colour coded accessories can look a little naf IMHO Did I just insult my car

    Cheers,

I am going to paint mine, even though I can order them in black. But maybe white may be the go now you mentioned it.

I'm not a big fan of powder bake and I can't afford (or don't agree) with the price of genuine anodised product.

Aluminium paints well, I'm spraying them buy using a metal etch primer, than a couple coats of epoxy enamel. Nothing flash but light industrial grade paint. If they fade over time, I'll can't see that taping them up and another quick coat will be a drama. I'm expecting 5 years before they look tired.

you can self anodise in whatever colour you like if you get the right grade of ally checker plate, colouring die, some general workshop gear and chemicals and a suitably sized container.

Cheers JohnR, that shows me pretty well.

Looks like it will cover it up pretty well so I may give it a go when I have the spondoolie to buy the things.

Thanks for the anodising info as well Dave.

Black checker on a white Defender looks good - maybe you might want to wait until after the Defender day out before you make a decision.

Scollops, your plates finish before the aerial. Is that a special order, or certain brand, or custom.
