    Detailed Holden Conversion Pictures

I have seen quite a few different ways that Holden red motors have been adapted into Series Landys. For those interested, here are some closeups of the engine & gearbox mounting for the 186 conversion that was done in my 1951 80inch Series 1. Feel free to add comparison pics of the setups in your vehicles.

    Passenger engine mount

No butchering of the front crossmember

    Passenger gearbox mount

    Driver's gearbox mount

I will be turfing all this in my restoration (see Member's Rigs) for something different...

That's engineering at it's lowest level. I'd frame those........

Yea I rekon the whole lot was done in the back paddock of some bloke's farm way back when...

To be fair it still runs and drives okay, certianly enough to be a farm truck/paddock basher

I'd hazard a guess sometime after 1965 as it's a red engine and the colour is wrong for a 149/179.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

It's a 186 - runs great and has heaps of power, I'd guess it was done in the 1980s some time. I was tempted to re register it with the 186 but there is no way I would bother getting it engineered...

My holden conversion did not even use a conversion kit. The standard landrover adapter plate was just bolted to the rear of the holden engine. The holes for the bolts were not even drilled - just punched through the aluminium with a cold chisel.

    It did work though.

    Hi there Garrycol

I have heard of some dodgy workman ship but:

My holden conversion did not even use a conversion kit. The standard landrover adapter plate was just bolted to the rear of the holden engine. The holes for the bolts were not even drilled - just punched through the aluminium with a cold chisel.
    That amazing.................

    All the best
