    Some "Interesting" Rattles I've had

1 - Jack base in passenger side seat box - Made a dull thud thud similar to yours
2 - Shock absorbers - Not the rubbers - but after 180,000 the original shock absorbers on my td5 110 were making an awful heavy thudding sound over bumps, and that appeared to come from the LHS.
3 - Finally on my new PUMA, the rear exhaust rubber mount keeps sliding out, so eventually the exhaust is pushed up against the chassis. This makes an interesting rumble and thudding sound.
4 - Rear window slides - the original windows in my new PUMA were so loose on the LHS that they rattled when you shut the door or drove on a rough road. A new window frame fixed that but the new one is so badly installed by the dealer that I now realise I should have put up with the rattles....

If it is a Puma and is an earlier one, the high lift jack under the rear seat can rattle/thud if it is not tied down tight enough by the cord straps. Most pronounced on bumps. I think later Puma's have a hydraulic jack.

Further, the rear speaker surrounds can vibrate on the body as only three points mount them to the bodywork directly. The plastic side trim panels around the rear windows can also rattle. This is probably not the problem as you describe it as it is not a heavy thud noise but just annoying.

Other than that get out a spanner and screw driver and tighten every nut, bolt, screw, plastic plug. etc. that are visible inside, outside and under the vehicle. You have probably done all this but, if not, it can't hurt and worked for me.

Oh, if it stops rattling/thudding, it has probably fallen off!
