Puma performance mods

thought I would get this thread started after the other day I done a few things to my 2010 puma and while I was at it I wondered what others have done so far or thought about doing???
I cleaned the air filter out and im certain that it went a tad better once I done it so now I'm looking at other things such as straight of the bottom of the turbo there is a polution box (cat converter you could say) I am considering replacing it with a 3" straight through piece straight of the bottom of the turbo... Also thinking about freeing up the terribly small and restrictive looking intake line from air box to snorkel with a larger diameter pipe... And then look into chip or tune and intercooler upgrade and then see what the puma can do

There are a few mods available re chipping etc, Tombie2 (TRT) / B.A.S. are the best starting points to find out more.

Don't go too overboard, you don't want broken drivetain components etc, diffs and trans etc aren't too strong if you want to start ramming 450 to 500Nm through them

Roughly how much for a chip you reckon ? Is there chips like how the td5's had different levels of power output ? (i heard someone say there once was a chip made for the td5 that was 250kw is this true?)
Speaking of drivetrain strength in the 6speed is 6th gear the weakest like how 5th gear on the R380 is the weakest or is 5th and 6th both weak?

I would hazard a guess at yes as they recommend you dont tow in 6th

Hey C.h.i.e.f,

I have removed the original factory ducting from the air intake / snorkel and replaced it with Pirtek 3" marine exhaust tube (Flexible high heat rubber tubing with an internal wire spring, to stop collapse and maintain internal diameter from suction and bending). Use the original PUMA connector to air box and use Sika-Flex to glue it all together

Two benefits -

1/ Now 100% water tight between air box and top of snorkel (Original PUMA ducting is only slip together and is NOT air/water tight).

2/ Now non restrictive air flow between snorkel and air box ( Original PUMA ducting has sharp angles, different shapes and in some places is down to about 20mm. Not an expert, but this has to restrict ability for smooth consistent air flow to be obtained)

Performance is improved at higher revs and the loud suction noise has been reduced.

My Mate a couple of doors up has got 2008 Ford Transit tray back, (Same motor and gear box as the Puma).

He is roof tiler and the Transit has clocked up 165,000K's already.

The Transit hauls well over 1.5t of tiles and other gear in the tray every day and regularly tows a bogie trailer full of waste tiles etc, weighing over 2.5t.

He burns up and down the F-3 in 6th every day - no prob's.

Not going to get involved with the debate about the diff's, but you can count on the motor and box to do the hard yards without a prob .

Done a trip the other day in the puma and done a fuel consumption test and came out with a figure that does not seem correct since it was sitting on the speed limiter for long periods but came out with a figure of 8.7L per 100klm 61L/531klm's?

assuming my maths is correct that is
