    New Disco 4

    Hi All

I purchased a demonstrator Disco 4 3.0 today. I looked at all the other usual suspects from Territory, XC90, Landcruiser, Prado to BMW and Mercedes.

Whilst not intending to do serious offroading, we went for the LR because of the onroad driving experience and the aesthetics. I was particularly impressed with the large, low slung side and rear windows and the good view from the rear (compared to say an Audi Q7).

I am picking my car up tomorrow. It is optioned with premium sound which includes the ipod & usb input.

Can you please advise me what accessories should come with my car in terms of number of owner's manual log books, keys, wheel lock nut keys etc. Also, is there supposed to be a wire/lead included with the car to connect my ipod?

I am concerned that the dealer gives me all the bits and pieces he is supposed to!!! From experience I know that now that he has made the deal there is less incentive for him to be thorough with the handover.

I would also be interested to hear whether people have opted to take up the extended factory warranty being offered.

PS - this site is very useful and I have spent several hours trawling already

    cheers
    George

    George,

Welcome to the "cult" as SWMBO calls it. Gotta love that D4.

WRT what you should get when you pick up the vehicle I can only go from my own experience. I got separate manuals for the vehicle, the navigation system and the phone. There was no locking nuts for the wheels. You should also get the towing hitch receiver that slots in under the rear bumper (this located in the rear left behind panel cover). Sometimes you may also get the actual tow tongue that the ball mounts on, although I didn't but already had one anyway. You should get 2 sets of keys and from memory if you get the premium sound then I think you get the iPod cable as well. I would asking them to throw this in as part of the deal, it is around $25 I think.

One of the forum members, Sneigy, works at a LR dealer so if you PM him, he may be able to confirm exactly what a dealer should be providing.

If you haven't already, read through the FAQ section, it has a wealth of info.

Expect to start grinning as you leave the dealer.

    Cheers

Thanks Cameron. I can't wait to collect it later today. There was a small issue of the park brake not engaging and showing an error message which has to be resolved and which may delay delivery...This has me a little worried and thinking it would be a good investment to take up the extended factory warranty on offer. I haven't looked into it enough yet to see if there are any exclusions or if it is a fair dinkum factory extension. Has anyone done the homework?

X2...but I did get the tow ball and tongue thrown in too.

    You're gonna love it!

We picked up our Disco on Wed in Sydney and drove it home to the Southern Highlands. Its a Santorini black with black trim optioned by the dealer with sat nav, upgraded stereo, ipod and usb dock, side steps and xenon lights (I'm not sure what that means).

First experiences were - WOW, what a luxurious, comfortable and effortless highway cruiser. Apart from the ride height and elevated view, I had no sense that I was in a full size 4wd. It felt like I was thumping along in a conventional top shelf Grand Tourer. The drive is quiet, refined and forgiving over the many bumps and potholes on my local country road. The 3.0 TTd is a gem. I did not discern any lag from the turbos anywhere at anytime. Overtaking time was smile time!

I also had an opportunity to take it off road yesterday visiting a mate and his family who lives up a goat track and across a swollen creek at the top of a hill in Braidwood. My initial fears for my gleaming black paintwork and underbody were never really overcome! When I stepped out of my ride i saw my beautiful black baby had become a patchwork of mud!

Black wasn't my first, second or third choice but when you are shopping for a good deal on a demonstrator you don't really get to choose your colour! With a good wash I'll have her looking tip top again.

I love my new black beauty. These things are unbelievably good. My only concern is that the permanent smile I'm wearing might somehow be bad for me. Well done George you chose the right make and model!

Hi George, welcome to the forum! To save repeating all the details, do a quick search for "Extended Warranty" and you will find 2 threads, with contact details and also prices. Don't know if this is still the case, but Meagan Roulston and/or Luke Teys do the best prices.

    Hey George,

I think the concept for a demo is to be able to show potential customers a few of the available options, so they spread extras across the demo models. Yours sounds like it has the same options as mine did....however, bi-xenon lights I believe are standard across the range. They are extremely bright but have a much tighter beam than halogen. They use a shutter to go from low to high beam and then halogen 'fillers' come on to spread and fill the cones of light. There have been lots of threads on the halogens as they tend to light up the tree tops more than the road..... The headlights are very good however.

Mine came with LR floor mats, tinting and mudflaps too. The salesman forgot to throw in the parcel tray as that had been removed in the showroom. But he mailed it to me. Check that you have yours.

    Hope this helps,

    Kev.

    Kev,
For MY11 models the Bi-zennon lights are now a $700 option on the SE model. I had to option them on mine even though they were standard when I ordered. The still SE has the signature leds standard but the S has neither as I understand it. I can notice the "possim" lights on mine, but i haven't done any night time country driving yet so it really hasn't bothered me. All up i still think the zennons are a worthwhile option.

    George,.
Congrats on the new car. The black looks great when it's clean...
    Enjoy.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't realize the mats were an option. Mine has them. I will check for the parcel shelf. I don't recall seeing one.

    Hi Marty,

Now that you mention it I do remember reading a while ago about the range being 'de-optioned'....it's pretty rude really.

    Mine is MY10.

    Yeah the lights are great.

    Cheers.
