EXTRA BATTERY + LONG RANGE FUEL TANK

Hi There

I have just joined this site and am looking for advice.
I appreciate these questions my have been addressed previously so please be patient with me.

I am considering buying either a Disco LR 4 HSE or RRS v6 and would like information of the following:-
ADDITIONAL BATTERY
Is it possible to Install an Additional Battery in either vehicle so as to run a Fridge?
LONG RANGE FUEL TANK
is it possible to install Long Range fuel tanks on either vehicles?

I would appreciate any advice that can be given.

Additional batteries can fit in two locations under the bonnet - on the drivers side up against the firewall (near the ABS thingy) and just in front of the main battery.

The space in both locations is a bit restricted but last week tested fitting a battery and a 60Ah allrounder will fit in both positions.

For the RRS - I understand that there is a tank that replaces the rear tyre but you will have to work out where to put the spare. I understand a wheel carrier is available.

For the Disco there is a long range tank and wheel carriers are available.

With both the D4 & RRS (from 10MY+) the modules in front of the brake booster will require movement within the space that they are positioned, relatively easy & some of us have already done this.

Yes there are tanks available, mainly ARB-Long Ranger, Long Range Automotive & would suggest you contact these guys for a spare wheel carrier as you will need to move the wheel for the tank.

Hi Endurance racer, welcome to the forum. Check out the FAQ's at the beginning of the D3/D4 Channel. Plenty of options in addition to those already mentioned. Opposite Lock have tanks & wheel carriers as well. Their gravity fed tank option is worth a look, and the Dolium spare wheel carrier is neat, though a little more difficult to fit.
I have mounted my spare battery in the conventional location, in front of the current oe battery, on the lh side of the engine bay. Traxide can make you a dual battery kit which caters for this location.
Do a search on your query topics, and be prepared to read a fair bit.

My only advice if you are to going to fit both, and install an Anderson plug at the rear of the vehicle for connecting a caravan, is to fit the battery and lead first. I found it quite difficult to get the lead past the tank when fitting my battery kit (from Tim at Traxide - great kit) to my D4.

Looked at the traxide website. Question is, where do you mount the battery? Can it be mounted without removing or fouling on one of the third row seats?

I have fitted 2 of these kits, D4 version with the battery mounted in the rear. They attach to the tie down point in the r/h/r section of the vehicle, the most rearward one as the little door that opens is where the cable comes from & stored out of the way when not in use.
You dont need to remove the 3rd row seats at all.
Can the seat be seat still be used? Well if u put the seat in the sitting position then there is not a lot of room between the door & seat, but i would say you could fit the battery behind the seat, This all depends on the type of battery, i only fit Optima D34 batteries as they can be mounted any way & even on there side. I would say that it may! fit between the tail door & rear seat in the upright position (something for me to have a look at).

You say you have your second battery in front of the main battery.. Any probs with too much heat? I have read elsewhere that that is a problem?
I am looking to fit 2nd battery, long range tank and rearbar.. Have looked at Kaymar. Anybody got about the Opposite Lock one?

Hi discojools.
I have had my optima in front of the main battery for 14mths now it runs the fridge 24/7. have done a fair bit of off road (low range) in the Kimberleys, and beach trips, tows a 2t KK van, so it has been hot. Battery is still going great. I think everyone "thought" it would be too hot. (Traxide controller best way to go IMHO)
