Should be a straight swap in terms of outside fitment / location. The post 2002 defender rear door is far better than any of the earlier ones.
The glass and seal is different however.
Can anyone tell me if the rear door from a Defender extreme will fit straight onto a County wagon. I think the glass install is different in that the Extreme uses a rubber like the front windscreen. What I need to know is is if there is an difference in the hinge and handle and door lock location and if the glass is interchangeable and if it will fit straight on. The one on my recent acquisition is rusted and I can get an Extreme one in good condition so wondering if it is a good idea to upgrade instead of repairing the original one. Also I think the spare tyre mount setup is stronger than the County one!

Im fairly sure that the lock changes as well but if you get the striker plate to suit I believe its a direct bolt in job.

never tried, best guess is yes and if it doesnt I dont think it would be much of a mod to make it do so.

Is the county one the same as the earlier Defenders? I fitted a post 02 rear door on my 01, but cant for the life of me remember if I had to change the handle / lock.
I am sure I did have to do something to it from memory but I can't remember what!
if you have a picture of the county one I can grab a pic of the catch / striker on mine
I think so but not 100% sure on that. I have a photo that was emailed to me but unsure how to transfer it to here. The door lock holes appear the same on both and the hinges (even the check rod track) appear the same but I wont know for sure until I have them side by side. Do you reckon it's a good idea changing over. To me it appears the later one (Extreme) is a lot stronger but I wonder about all that steel - more to rust!

It's definetely a good idea. The later door is far stronger, and also galvanised.
FWIW the design changed in the 2002 refresh when the rear door got central locking.. There are some extreme models with the old door design.
