I need to replace the body plate on my 1957 series 1 88 inch. I need to know what plate was supposed to be there. Heres some pics of plates found through the thread and help in the series 2 section. It was suggested the plate is supposed to be black? The other series one i have has a sand coloured one. Out of the two black ones available they are differant. And both sand ones are differant to. Does anyone know which one is supposed to be on mine?

I will take a pic of the 1957 plate we have here for you and yes still black, I have only ever seen black ones

Don't touch the ones on eBay from the UK - they are a peel off plastic membrane over a square of aluminium.
The ones from Scotts Old Rubber are at least silk screen painting directly on the aluminium.
Haven't been able to find someone who does the original photo etching that you can stamp yourself. The ones from the LRSOC are very good but you need to send them a copy of your rego papers for the number stamping.
BTW the original plates should be either black or red, the light brown ones from the UK are supposed to replicate the aged process, but the plastic film will likely not last for long at all.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Diana,
The photo anodised (or photo etched) ones can be made locally, just the usual cost vs. quantity. Just got a quote for a 1off for someone on the REMLR forum, $300 - $400. If you wanted a large number made I can investigate further.
A 1off screenprinted was $120, for that you would probably get 2 or 3. Problem is it only looks 'original' from a distance......
