    back end noise

g'day can anyone help i have a loud thump coming from the back of my 98 110 when the rear wheels drop into a hole or even just off the gutter. I have replaced trailing arm bushes top and bottom, A frame ball joint and bushes, new shocks and coils. It sounds like the body hitting chassie but have looked at that and there are a couple of mounts on each side that are not bolted but no rub or wear marks to show they are hitting. im pretty much out of ideas

Some times I get a strange noise around the back end, it has nothing to do with cars though.

Check exhaust system bushes, the exhaust could be hitting.

    ...Try unplugging the subwoofer then..

Seriously it sounds as if the shocks are 'topping' out, they may be too short for the coils. What springs and shocks did you fit?

Have you got any gear inside the vehicle thats not held down securely. Perhaps something like a bottle jack rocking sideways as one wheel drops?
    Or spare wheel carrier?

Does it have a sway bar fitted to the rear!
Might be worth checking the rubbers if it has one.

Check that the bolts holding the tub to back x-member are not loose. Also check rear door for a cracked frame, especially if it has a spare mounted on it, although this is usually a rattle not a thump. Another possibility, although it usually has other symptoms, is either a loose wheel bearing or a loose wheel.

gday i recon i have the same noise my 110 seems to land very heavy, i came from owning a couple of leaf spring cruisers and after having a good look while wandering around under the rover with a pry bar sorta decided that it all seems to be in good nic, so will be very interested in finding out what others have to say

I think so to, OME shocks are not that long in the stroke and don't take much to top out even with standard springs.
