    Series 1 restoration manuals

    Hi gang,
I asked my old mate Scollops, who has got me into Landies, if there was bible to Series 1 detail or restoration. He answered

Original Land Rover Series 1 by James Taylor.

I must admit it's a great read but has caused some interest in what is original spec on Lucky.
Just wondering if anyone else can suggest something else to cross reference it, or is James considered the best.

Jason - your vehicle doesn't need restoring! It already is!

but but see how psychotic I have become. I read a book that suggests a 55 should have a blue or green tilt, and matching coloured rims, and seats. Where I have grey rims and brown seats. Grey rims were on late 55's and 56's but never a brown seat was ever fitted to a Series. Well according to James Taylor.

maybe time for a cool beer and a reboot.

Lucky's getting closer, soon be on a truck heading to home soon.

There is a chap in NZ who has just restored a '48 or '49, which has brown seats. Other people over there and in the UK, have S1's with brown seats as well.

It is worth knowing that when Taylor wrote his book some years ago, he consulted with the members of the S1 Club in the UK but since then lots of new information has been discovered, that contradicts what was known then,

That is interesting, I'd imagine the seller of mine restored it to as close as possible or practical. If it had green seats then I would wouldn't think brown was chosen for personal styling wants.

I guess read and chat widely and come to some conclusion, no one can really say it's wrong because Rover struggled to keep accurate records of little changes.

I understood the original seat material was Elephant hide and 'Phants only come in grey/silver! Remember to always wear your Pith helmet when even approaching your new vehicle, Jason - one can never be too careful.
