UHF radio set up for D4

Hi, just wondering what people have found works in their D4 with UHF set ups - brands, placement, remote head or all in one, aerial placement, wiring requirements, battery issues etc?

IC440 under the passenger front seat.
Remote head just floats around in the centre console. Unplugged when not in use.
Power back to a 2nd battery on the driver's side.

Thanks heaps, WhiteD3 - using that bracket, does the aerial clash with the passenger door when the bonnet's up?

Have you left the head loose for lack of a good fixing point, or just not wanting to put holes in the interior?

I think I've seen something from you on the forum about your 2nd battery setup too?

GME 3440 {I think that's the right number}
head unit mounted behind the panel above the drivers knees
remote hand piece extension cable run from the head unit to between the passenger seat and centre tunnel NB. completely hidden.
Hand piece, with all the controls, plugged into the extension cable comes straight up sits into the mounting clip on the front face of the centre consule box, passenger side.
Easy to install
Easy to access the head unit
Easy to operate with your left hand whilst driving
Minimal intrusion into drivers space
power to the 2nd battery in engine bay
Aerial placement standard
Of course I am refering to the D3 but I assume there wouldn't be a great deal of difference in space allocation between the 2 vehicles.

Great radio but not available in 80 channel and I believe no longer sold. If buying a new radio - really needs to be 80 channel these days.

Hi Guys,
I installed my Uniden UH7760NB 77 Ch LCD speaker mic UHF radio under my seat as well.
The Mic mount I actually pinched the idea from Graeme who uses something similar for his trailer brake controller. His attaches the same way but hangs back down and under the dash, while mine goes up for the Mic mount.
No Holes, no damage. Just firmly pull the top edge of the cover panel under the steering wheel down to fit.







My antenna is fitted to my roof rail and the cable hidden under the black plastic trim.



Reception great up on the roof, I have a longer antenna for flat country travel this one is for hilly 4wding and cities. Same principals D3 / D4.

Hi Rich, would you care to tell us how you routed your aerial cable to the inside of the car, and for those who might not have roof rails, can the type of bracket that you are using, be able to be fixed to the 'Basic' roof channels?

If you don't have the Roof rails fitted there are fixing points under the plastic trim, you just have to find them!

I just made the bracket up myself out of alluminium.

They are under the plugs covering the trim. Even though they are push in, I found the easiest way to remove them is to gently hammer a small blade screwdriver into the plug and then unscrew. I just installed Rhino Rack tracks and crossbars on my D4 last weekend, so it is fresh in my memory.
