    Engine Parts

    Hi All,

We are restoring an 1954 86" and we are now up to rebuilding the 2lt motor. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any suppliers that may be able to help me with the following:

    - 0.040" undersize main bearings (Type with thrusts as part of shell).
    - 0.040" big ends

    Appreciate any help/advice.

Craddocks in the UK have all those bits listed in their Net catalogue. Four Wheel Drives still have some Series on bits, but you'd have to specifically ask. I've also asked CLR, but they too have limited stock, though he has some contacts who can help.

    bearings

They are freely available in the UK..Dunsfolds ( mains 70 pounds a set , rods 35 pounds a set ) , also Blanchards , Cox and Turner , probably others too . Here , I noticed the chap from Sale in Gippsland ( Alex Ward ? ) has bearings on ebay right now , for the spread bore motor though . MIKE

    Chrome bore

    Hi Oowie

Watch out for the chrome in the bore on those motors, as it is near impossible to fit rings into those motors successfully without getting the block re bored and new oversize pistons fitted .

People have tried to fit rings only, but where the chrome stops, down in the bore, the ridge knocks the new rings out in a very short time.

This isn't a problem with the spread bore motor ( the motor with the full flow oil filter ), as they didn't use chrome in the bore.
