    101's and lightweights ?

Curious to know... Does/has/can a half ton light weight (have also seen them referred to as "air portable") fit on the back of a 101?

Obviously a crane or some really big ramps might be required, just wondering if it was ever a done thing.

Also along a similar vein, and somewhat hypothetical, would a light weight be able to be transported on a No.5 half ton trailer?

    Re: 88" LW into a 101"

Width would be ok, but I reckon it'd be too long.
(No idea really as I haven't measured, but still wondering why you'd want to.????)

    Dave,
The lightweights ended up heavier than the series it was meant to replace.
The overall dimensions were smaller. They are a little over 1.2 ton. The 101 is designed to carry 1 ton. Should be able to to do it but I wouldn't risk it. I wouldn't think the original tub would take the load concentrated on four points.
Now, if you made a custom tray designed to support an "air portable"....
    Hmmm..... Landrover recovery truck.

    I need another 101 guys.

    Thanks Sleepy and Mick.

Initially I was theorizing about flat-packing a FFR softy onto a 101 for cheap freight/transportation... It seems Mick has unknowingly developed a habit of diverting my interest to more obscure LR vehicles!
However, now I am thinking of SWMBO "purchase excuse options" like 101 base camp with LW day drive vehicle... Or as Mick said 101 recovery vehicle...

So how does a 1/2 ton named vehicle become 1.2 ton? Did someone put a / in the wrong place?
    Hoo-Roo,

Your mission, Dave, should you choose to accept it......
I'm looking at getting one now. The one I told you about. All hush hush and on the QT. Don't tell ANYONE about it. Concentrate on helping me get that over.
We could bring yours and Sleepy's lightweights over with it.

Actually, after further thought, a 6x6 Perentie would make a better Landrover recovery vehicle. They can carry 2 ton.

    Now you're talking Sleeps.

I have seen a Perentie on the back of a Mog. That was going up Sydney Road Parkville I think. It was a while ago. The memory is a little hazy on location.
I have also seen a Mog on the back of a Mack.

Are you talking about buying another 101 here or getting yourself a lightweight?

I am making enquiries about a UK 101 at the moment. I hope we are not both checking out the same vehicle... LOL!
