iPod connection for D3 SE

G'day all,

I have now been searching for a thread I should have saved a while ago.

It was a pdf showing a step by step on tapping into the standard audio stereo (without AUX jack) and adding the iPod cable.

Can anyone help me out? I have searched for every key word I can think of but can't seem to find it...

Try this,
I used it for my D3 and its pretty easy.
Tutorial: Land Rover Discovery 3 AUX-In and Phone Mute - Forums - Mobile Electronics AU

make sure your 3.5mm cable to the i-phone is at least a metre long,
i drilled a hole about 10mm in the plastic between the 2 power sockets under the radio for the cable to come out.
that piece comes out easily to be drilled and the hole is not noticeable.
the radio and surrounds come off easily as well.
its a fiddly job and takes a couple of hours.

Actually, its not the one I was after, but its very similar...

The one I am after is the one showing how to connect the iPod cable to the various wires and wire it all up.

Did you happen to post the wrong link?

I appreciate the help, the page heading looks like I remember, and I have just searched that forum but I must have lost my magical search touch because I'm going nowhere very slowly...

Ok,
I used this after an extensive search and trying unsucessfully to use an alternative set of instructions where access is through the side panel.
My vehicle had no auxiliary cable from the radio to the side panel.
I stripped the end of the standard 3.5mm i-phone cable and connected to it to the red and blue slots shown on the photo.
Yours may or may not already have the blue and red cables connected to the black plastic connector (the one he is holding in the 3rd and forth photos). Either way, this is where the cable connects to.
It does work , and its not difficult, just ignore the bit about the phione connection.
One thing, this method is ONLY useful for playing the i-phone through the aux on the radio. I use a blue-tooth visor mounted device for phone calls.

bringing an old thread to life..

I want to do this mod to my D3 S - but i'd like to know if it is absolutely necessary to have a 3 core audio wire or will a normal 2 core 3.5mm headphone jack wire be enough - do it have to be grounded?

I've seen the photo's - but having drama's finding the 3 core wire.

Mike - 3 core is:
1) left channel
2) right channel
3) shielding - connected to ground at either end to the base of the 3.5 mm plug.

The headphone cable will have all three.

thanks Jonesy, I bought a 3.5mm cable with plugs yesterday - will cut it and see, its a round cable vs the other '2 side by side style cables' so hopefully there's a shielding cable as well.

I've seen both types - hence i ask.

Not sure if you managed to find the link but it was topic 2972 on the DISCO3.co.UK website. Here's the link. It works well and was easy to do.
