285/75 16 tyres with standard front flares?

    Hi all
Qick question - can I get away with the standard Defender front flares if I fit 285/75 16 tyres (33" x 11.5") on 16 x 8 rims with 25mm offset?

    It's on a 1998 300TDi 130 with a 2" suspension lift.

    Thanks

    Andrew

    Hey Andrew,

    25mm off set ???

    + or - ???

16 x 8 neutral off set, should work.

Yes! I have. I'm running 285/75 R16 BFG Mud Terrains with a 70mm lift on the front and a 40mm lift at the rear. The tyres on the front run just outside the line of the arch by about 10/15mm but it'd be a pretty pedantic cop to get funny about it as the lift makes it look right.... I think!! Have tried to add a pic but the archaic uploading system always causes me grief!!

+ = inwards or toward the centre of the vehicle.

    - = outwards or towards to the outside of the vehicle.

If it is - 25 off set, then no. Mine has 33/12.5-15 KM2s on -25 15 x 8 Dynamic rims and they stick out a lot. I had 32/11.5-15 before and they still stuck out quite a lot.

First pic is the 33s, second is the 32s, same rims.

There is actually no need to mention what lift you have, they either stick out or not, lift will not change how far in or out the tyre sits. But your answer is as some have stated, yes they will stick out. I have 285/75/16 and they stuck out until I extended the flares.

I was going to edit my post to say I have a 2" lift, but after lambrover's post I won't. What the lift does affect is rubbing on full articulation. Mine rubs the flares on full lock at full articulation, but not slightly less than full lock.

Thanks guys, now looking at Macfamily's wagon, I might just stick with 16 x 8 with 0 offset.

    Cheers
