    RAIs

Anybody experienced both the LR RAI and Safari Snorkel on their cars? Just wondering if there is any difference in wind noise. Prefer the look of the LR one and I believe there are kits available to make them waterproof.
Had Safari on my D3 and noticed a slight increase in wind noise.

As a side note I tried to order Dolium 80ltr fuel tank and wheel carrier today but was told that none were available and won't be for 3 months. Bit disappointed!

    Hi Jools,

There was another recent post on this subject. I posted some comments on the Safari snorkel. Do a search and I'm sure you will locate it. I doubt you will get a definitive comparison data, without a side by side test in identical vehicles. Once the windows are up, you would be hard put to hear any real noise with the Safari. ( my experience in 2.7 D4 )

I've had experience with both, our D4 has a Safari Snorkle and a mate has the RAI, the RAI makes a sucking noise, although not really bad, and usually only heard when the drivers window is down, it can be heard under heavy accelleration with the window up.

My personel opinion is they are pointless if they are not sealed, which they aren't, what is the point of a perferated tube from the airbox and not sealing them at any of the joins or at the airbox

Defeats the purpose of Raised Air Intake if it's sucking air from under the bonnet
    Cheers Baz.

Got the LR RAI and its quiet as a mouse.

Mates got a Navara with a Safari Snorkel, its noisy with the wind hitting the mouth. So he bought a filter and its quiet as mine.

RE: the RAI is great to keep dust out of the filter, especially when following someone offroad. It might not be water proof, but i dont care as i dont exactly think the Disco is built for swimming anyway.

Yep, nice V8 induction noise with my LR RAI if I have the window & foot down. Quiet otherwise.

    Hi Jools,

I believe all part numbers are the same for D3 and D4. If using LR's RAI don't change the elbow at the filter under the bonnet. That is perforated but the one provided when built new from the factory supposedly isn't.

As a worst case you could seal the elbow supplied with the RAI kit and voila - snorkel - or so I believe. This is what the blokes at Austral in Brisbane are saying to me at any rate.

    Cheers

I had RAI on my D3 and now have Safari Snorkel on my D4. The RAI was noisier for intake noise with the drivers window down - due to intake being at the back. Wind noise from speed is about the same on both - can't tell the difference with roof racks on!

I was speaking with the guys from Ritters at the 4WD show last week and if they fit a RAI they'll seal it as per snorkel.

I have heard the same thing.

BTW: Has anyone noticed a difference in either power or economy??

    Cheers, Craig
