    awning

All, I'm thinking of buying an Ironman Awning - 2.0m length (comes out 2.5m); simple, cheap ($240) at recent Brisbane Show) anyone own one? comments? is 2m length about right for a Disco (wont interfere with anything...actually there is a thought, the RAI, might need to look at that...)

    Hey mate,

I just picked up a 2.5m wide (along the vehicle) ARB awning for $290 (retail $335? - but got a bit knocked off). I plan on installing it tomorrow so will try to throw up a photo or two so you can see the length.

I looked around and thought that it was probably the best size for me, (just that bit extra room for a few chairs / tables etc). Disco's are big enough to hold the bigger awnings. Plus, if you get a 2.5m wide you can also get mozzie nets etc to fit (haven't seen these available for the 2.0m wide ones?).

With the RAI / snorkel, obviously it's side dependant, most people put them on the passenger side so it wouldn't be a problem. I understand people put them on the passenger side due to additional wind noise, ease in pulling off the side of the road to set it up (no turning around) and I have heard that some caravan / parks / camp sites are set up with the concrete pad on the left which they don't like you parking on? Personal preference, up to you.

There are a few good shots of D3's & D4's with awnings which might provide some food for thought in... http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...ost-first.html

If you're comparing the Ironman to the ARB awning, when we were out on the CSR, the ARB was quicker to set up and pack up. Seemed easier all round (and is a little lighter).

    Cheers,

2.5m awning - I also threw on 2 super bright 3w led light bars with some velcro which does the trick.

    Re awnings

Recently bought a 2.4 by 2.1 awning from Gordigear (wasn't the cheapest awning, but appears to be well made. Main reason I bought it was that it came with option of a "room" (which I also bought).
The room is excellent, strong detachable floor, two entry doors, with screens on all doors and windows, and absolutely insect and snake proof.
    Worth a look.

I have just put a 2.5m Ironman awning on my D4. It's the right size for the vehicle IMHO. I looked at the ARB when I had the bullbar fitted, and didn't like it.

On the D2 (which my son now owns), I had installed the Black Widow 2.5m awning. The canvas on the Black Widow is way better than the Ironman / ARB or any of the more common awnings, but the Black Widow is more than double the price too.

We had them both up in the back yard yesterday - my son has ended up with the better awning - but I'm not unhappy with the Ironman either.
    Cheers .........

Was at the recent Birsbane 4wd show and saw ironman/arb and several lots of other awnings. The one that impressed me the most, though not the cheapest, was the Rhino roof racks Foxwing. Made by Oztents. They had the Oztents tag along tent zipped onto it. Very smart.

I had a look at the Foxwing too before buying the Ironman. Has its good points, but not what I wanted.

I have an Oztent RV5 with the "caravan adaptor" - I can attach the Oztent to either the Black Widow on the D2, or to the Ironman on the D4 - they both have sail track along the outer frame.
    Cheers .........
