TD5 Traction control light wont go off after new ECU fitted

    Hi guys,

I had a new ECU fitted today and everything works great except that the TC light stays on and will not go off now. All the lights work on start up and the abs light works then goes off once u get up to speed but the tc light wont go off. it is only the TC light no issues with abs light or anything.

This was never an issue before. Any ideas of how to remedy this preferably without having to go back to the shop again. I am planning on grabbing a nanocom in the next week or so so hopefully i can sort it out with this.

will this light being on cause any problems if i cant get it off right away? i dont want to drive it around and damage something if i Dont have to. I have checked the plugs on the ecu and the ABS module but everything looks good, the fusible links under the driver seat look OK also. it is just weird that it only started as soon as the new ECU went in.

    any help would be great.

    cheers

    Josh

    Hi Josh,
What was the reason for a new Ecu? Could that reason be linked to the tc light?

Also, is it the same model ecu as your original and is it (the new one) out of a uk 2006 td5?

The tc shouldn't be affected by an ecu swap if all software and firmware versions are the same.

Blew the old ecu when the twisted performance piggy back chip shorted out. this is the 3rd new one I've had in as the first one was the wrong type, the second one was a paperweight and wouldn't talk to the car and this one works first time and drives great but the TC light just won't go off.

Funnily enough an 'incompatible' MSB type ecu ( per 2002) worked with no TC issues but drove like a pig. This is a NNN ecu with the defender file on it. Perhaps I could try a file from the nano com map wizard once I get it and see if that fixes it. I'm thinking it might be a phantom fault in the ECU as it is second hand. Is there some kind of 'learn' that you have to do with the ABS when installing the ECU that the dealer could have overlooked? The security an everything works just fine.

It appears the ABS is still working as I couldn't lock the brakes today no matter what I did and we had the first big rain in many months so the road was nice and soapy. I don't hear any fringing or scraping noises as others have reported when TC goes bonkers. Maybe I'll take it somewhere to test if I'm still getting TC when I need it and if I am just live with the light being on.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

Just thought I'd update for the Benifet of people doing searches at a later date. The issue I had turned out to be a discovery fuel map loaded onto my defender ecu.

This caused the traction control light to stay on and also for the coolant gauge to read backwards. The other thing that was out of whack was that he nanocom would read the road speed as half of the actual speed when driving.

I got a stage 3 fuel map ( for a defender this time )from td5 inside and now have no issues. Something to be aware of when buying second hand ECU's make sure whoever fits it can load the correct map as the previous owner might have been a manual discovery using a defender part.

    Cheers

    Josh
