Trailer Plug

Hi All,

I was Just pottering around cleaning and checking the D4 over and thought I would make sure all the connections on the trailer plug were working.
When the parking/tail light switch was on and nothing else There was also power at the blue brake wire ? It went on and off with the light switch.
No brake controller fitted.
Is this normal ?
Not on any of my other vehicles !

Your thoughts ?

It will be because the wiring is for the UK and Europe. Over there they use two seperate wires for the side lights (left and right, Blue and Brown I think). Consequently it was showing power for the side lights not the electric brakes (which they don't have a lot of in the UK).

I understood that the left white plug was euro and right was aussie ?
It actually activated trailer brakes and caused the vehicle to slow,once again no brake controller.

The blue wire is connect to the brown tail light in the loom behind the left taillight. As it comes it has two taillight feeds, left and right, but in Australia we just have the one taillight feed and the other is brake controller. The threads on here about connecting brake controllers cover breaking this connection when fitting the controller.
Probably not a real issue unless you want to have a brake controller.

Actually it IS A BIG ISSUE if you have electric brakes on a trailer, as soon as you put on the parking lights the trailer brakes will come on full. That is, they will come on until the fuse blows.

That is what I thought happened !!!!
Can I just disconect, and tape the end up when I put in my brake controller which will run through that pin ?

Yes!

On the D4 the trailer harness plugs into the loom behind the tow hitch receiver compartment (passenger side in cargo area). From here it is easy to isolate the Blue wire and connect in the trailer brakes.

The top connector feeds the white capped socket (intended for power for caravans etc in EU) the lower one is for the trailer lights etc.
