Fuel pressure regulator, replace or repair?

After a lot of searching under the car and under the bonnet and with some help from the AULRO archives I have established that my fuel pressure regulator is the cause of the diesel leaking onto my driveway. What I have found in the archives is a mixture of opinions from replacing the regulator which costs about $300 off ebay (hate to think what it would cost locally) or to get a "repair kit" consisting of seals and gaskets which can be found for under $20.

The regulator only leaks when the engine is running and there is no noticeable difference in engine power. Money is tight and if I can go the cheaper option than that would get me back on the road quicker but I want to make sure it is done right the first time.

I assume you mean on a Td5, we just did the second on our Discovery (170,00km) as it was leaking aswell, both times we replaced it with a new genuine part, AFAIK there is no proper new seal kit, but i'll wait for a mechanic to set you straight on that. Dad knows a lot of mechanics in the business and we got the whole block of them, never heard of the gasket kits.

    Cheers

    if its the td5's FPR..

there isnt a kit for it, however the parts have all been identified in other posts by people from the forum so you can go to a seals place and get all the ones you need.

I suggest that you replace the first one then repair it and keep it on hand as a spare.
