    Power Window x 1 to 85 County ?

Yep , yep , yep , I know , WTF am I thinking but hear me out

I have a weathershield on the driver's side window and often find that by just cracking open the front passenger window also or fully opening it , I can most often achieve the required level of cooling I need . Around the burbs this is fine because I can just lean over and wind it down a bit.

It is problematic at 100kmh however

So my latest crackpot scheme is to retrofit a powered window motor to adjust the front passenger window on the fly.

Is it possible and if so could you just buy the bits at say Supercrap or Autobum.

    Pete

can't see why its not possible, Mack trucks (at least our Fleetliner) have powered passenger windows (air) so you can do this, the driver has to wind LOL

Why don't you just go to a wrecker and see if they'll let you swap to newer power window doors (with a little cash probs), if you get a perfect colour match it would be good

You can get aftermarket kits, or at least you could in the past, my mate used to have power windows in his Gemini. But they were pretty crappy.

A better bet is probably a whole door as Mr LR jnr suggested. A TD5 Xtreme would probably be your best bet, as they're the oldest Defenders to have them factory fitted, they have the switch in the centre panel where the radio is. But you could put a plate aywhere convenient.
    Wiring shouldn't be too difficult.

You could also buy the individual bits from the UK, I remember reading an article about someone putting power windows in his TDi, with some sort of kit using factory bits.

    Might cost a bit though

    Good luck with it

Pete's 110 county (Red October on here) has front power windows. Fitted by the PO. I believe he used a hella(?) aftermarket kit designed for trucks.

Fitting later model doors is not as simple as it sounds. The 87 on doors are thicker than the earlier ones, requiring the seats to be moved inboard about an inch. Fitting a winding mechanism rather than a whole door may be easier!

I do like the idea of remote central locking system interface that will close your window when you lock the vehicle.
Yeah, yeah I know if I wanted the vehicle to do that I should of bought a Discovery or a Rangie.
You have to admit, own one of these is an ‘accessory sport’ just like fishing, camping, golf etc. etc.

Opps: My bad, double checked posted link only take you to company’s main site.

fit a series 3 door and top. then you have the option of removing the door top or just driving around will open the sliding window, all by its self. in winter use a stick.

at least it will have real door handles

Problem is that the '85 County has the lift up door handles like the Series III not the later type of the '87 County and Defender models.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
