Had the 130 in for a service last month at Bruce Lyntons, and mentioned that the 4 bolts that hold the snorkel to the wing section were rusty, and could i request they put new ones in, no problem, special order from the UK, 3 weeks later i get a email your bolts are here, cool so I nip in, Greeted by James ( who by the way goes out of his way to help you ) Come for the bolts I say, dont mind fitting them myself, oh no its a bigger job than that, we have to replace all your snorkel as the bolts only come as part of the snorkel kit.
Amazing!!!!!!!$860 to replace 4 Bolts....... ( plus there time )... No Wonder Land Rover lose money on the Defender....
Well done! I must admit that I cannot complain about the service I've received from them too in regards to warranty issues.. they haven't complained and have fixed everything promptly and with a smile.. they even washed it for me last time.. and I don't even get my car serviced there..
That's great to hear Juddy, I have had mine serviced there from new and have found them very good.
It does make me wonder though. $860 for four bolts, no wonder I'm increasingly struggling to understand the world we live in.

If LR do things like this on a regular basis, than I can understand the failing of the current models diffs, g boxes, etc. These parts must be made for pittance in second world countries with apparent questionable quality control.
No accountant will happily sign off on a company spending such large amounts of money replacing such small bits if they cost anywhere remotely what LR charge for them.
Now I'm wondering, my block is rusty because it was never painted, my doors don't align, and my throw out bearing is noisy...reckon I could get a new car.

LR would not make the snorkel, so would not have any parts inventory. They would get it as a complete unit - hence replace it as one too. They would most likely not loose money on the warranty, but pass it back to the manufacturer as a credit or have a certain % failure built into their contract.

Drover,
There is something very fishy about that rear glass thing... Last time mine was in for a service (Corporate, so no bill) I got the "By the way your brake ligh wasn't working, so we replaced the window" line as well...
I actually thought they might have accidently broken the glass and replaced it, but your post puts a whole new spin on it...!

Same as mine regarding the stop light. I was unaware it was not working but had twice before complained about how badly fitted the inside of the actual light was. I also think they had a problem with the demisters on the rear glass only partially working on a few vehicles also.
