D4 Hi-ICE upgrade to Sat Nav: is it possible?

    Hi all

I have searched the forums both on this site and others and I can't seem to find an answer to my specific question.

I have a D4 with the Hi-ICE audio (which includes 7 inch colour touch screen) but I DON'T have factory satellite navigation fitted. Does anyone know if it is possible to fit or activate once you have the Hi-ICE audio?

I have seen write-ups of extensive rewiring and fitting of kits from wreckers or China but I thought since the 7 inch touch screen is already fitted it might be a more simple operation in my case.

Any advice anyone can offer would be great.

    Thanks

    Pawky

I was told this wasn't possible to upgrade to the LR sat nav. Was also told by a high end installer of after market audio and nav equipment that the D4 is not a friendly model for after market kit (unlike the D3) i.e integration is difficult. Hope that helps

Thanks Lotz-a-landies. I read all those but they weren't directly applicable in my situation (the closest was the Qld volunteer wanted).

Thanks also to Malcolm, I suspected that might be the case

There are apparently some significant changes to the entertainment systems on the MY12 D4 which are quite different to the MY11 D4.

I am in exactly the same situation as you in respect of having an MY12 D4 with Hi-Ice (Harmon-Kardon Audio) but without the Nav or Camera. Also not sure that I want to have the standard Land-Rover Nav system, which is no better than any other car on the highway next to you.

What I would like would be something like Hema-Navigator plugged into the NAV system using the touch screen, and my second option would be a turn by turn GPS with traffic alerts and mapping software displayed on the D4 screen but operated from an external device.

My best option so-far is the Advance ICE video input, but we need someone actually visualise what's in the MY12 D4 Hi-ICE audio. Then investigate what can be merely retrofitted by plugging in the camera etc and what will need an external source through an after-market interface. My LR specialist mechanic suggests that the earlier D3 models nidn't have the harnesses but (without actually checking) believe that many of the required harnesses will actually be in the D4, at least the D4 with Hi ICE.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
