			brake lines - bending

					Hi all,

I am starting to replace the brake lines on my 58 SWB & just thinking of how to bend the pipe. I have bought the lines from four wheel drives in melb. & they appear to be steel not real easy to bend. I have put in the drivers sides rear along the axle housing, just bending by hand, looks ok but not great, hard & fiddly to bend small amounts to follow the axle housing.

Should I use a pipe bender & is so does anybody have a good brand to buy? Some on the net go from $20 to $120 about - just not sure if they are worth it? some have two handles & others only one -not sure of the best type.

Also is there a different joint (bubble??) where the lines go into the brass fittings - not just a double flare.

 Any advice greatly appreciated.

 thanks
 Steve

I use one of the 2 handle types. It's made by Record but it still wasn't really expensive.

IIRC, a double flare is the bubble type. If you want it concave, then you give the bubble a go over with the flare bit again to push the bubble in (if you know what I mean).

Thanks - but I am right for the moment. I have done all the pipes from the wheels to the main T piece at the bulkhead. Generally just bent them slowly by hand but bought a bender for the couple of sharp 90 degree bends where the lines run under the gear box. Still have to do the pipe up to the master cylinder & reservoir - but bulkhead not in place yet.

 thanks for the offer.
Cleaned the transfer case last weekend & working on putting it back together this week end.

 regards
 Steve
