    Red Dog

I watched Red Dog last night, and must say it's one of the best Austrailian movies I have seen for quite some time. It's one of those that make you laugh and cry, highly recommended.

    Still haven't seen that one.
Did you happen to catch "wake in fright" the other night?

I enjoyed "Red Dog" a few months ago. Parts of the first ten minutes or so didn't seem all that promising, but from then on it was quite clever. I especially enjoyed it because I saw it in the cinema at Sawtell, the one that was built when I was growing up there in the 1950s.

I watched 'Wake in Fright" again. I saw it in a cinema when it was first released and then again a few years later on TV. I have always thought that it was one of the best examples of a film utterly ruined by being shown on commercial TV. That slow descent the central character undergoes is nowhere near as effective when it is interrupted at regular intervals by messages about what brand of toothpaste or washing powder we should be using.

Thankfully this time it was uninterrupted so we were subjected to the full impact of the hero's downward spiral.

I've watched it three times now and totally agree with you, for a movie on a budget, it's "five stars" from me The documentary on the dvd is very interesting too.

I saw Red Dog when it first appeared. I do not watch many movies, but I certainly thought this was worth watching. One quibble though - one scene is supposed to take place in 1970, when the dog is picked up on the road by a couple - travelling in a Series 3.

Could be true. I had a mate with an H reg Series III. H registration was from 1 August 1969 – 31 July 1970. However, this was in the UK, not sure what year they arrived over here.
