    spare tyre on puma bonnet?

    Is it possible?
is there some sort of aftermarket kit to do it?

I prefer it greatly to rear door mounted spare...

I'm sure it could be done, but under current ADRs (which the TDCi has to meet) I'm pretty sure it wouldnt be legal.

Bonnet would need a whole stack of bracing though! May not fit under there with the tall engine in the 'hump'

It definitely wouldn't be legal, unfortunately.

Due to the hump, the visibility would be restricted too much, although I'm not sure if the rules are federal or state-based.

Its a shame, I'd love to put a spare on the bonnet of mine.

Apparently the answer is yes, found this with a google search, there are a couple of other images but nothing to indicate who makes them over in the eu.

That sure is ugly, and would be VERY difficult to see over, especially off road when you want to see the front corners of your vehicle. I've had the spare on my bonnet on previous Defenders - it gets it out of the way but does restrict vision.

Pretty sure it is national and this wouldn't get close to legal.

I have seen a diagram some time back of the geometry required and it is a head spin for very little reward.

Be interesting trying to open the bonnet without smashing the front window too!

Is the legality/illegality of bonnet mounting to do with obstruction of driver vision?

I have a TD5 with a front runner bonnet mount for a spare, I never use it but would it be legal if I did?

    Cheers

    Grab the ADR John.

    It specifies the testing procedure....

If I can find it, I will post it later.

Ditto..I have been looking for my copy too..filed it reallllllly safely!

From memory it was about mods but if it is original factory fitment you would think it would be OK but then again ......

As others have noted, your visibility is really going to be compromised with a tyre on the bonnet.

Our first Landie was an 'R6', which was LR's effort to break sanctions by assembling a CKD landie Series III kit in RSA and fitting a Rover in-line 6 cyl. petrol engine into it. This had a spare on the bonnet, which frankly I found to be a pain in the proverbial. I'm not a particularly big fella, and I found that the bonnet was much too heavy for my liking. And in view of the amount of time I was obliged to have my head down in the engine bay and my backside shooting the moon, I lifted the bonnet far more times than I would have preferred.

Our subsequent (V8) and current (300 TDI) had/have rear-mounted carriers, which I much prefer.
