    Replacement 'Everything-in-one' headunit

I have just gone out on a limb and ordered an Eonon 1310 head unit for the D2. It is replacing an earlier generation of Eonon head unit that had a failure in the video switching path that resulted in loss of the GPS display and iPod interfacing.

Maybe I am throwing good money after bad, but I think the product has a lot of potential once they get the interface sorted out. We will see...

Let us know how it works out. I was looking at a similar unit but wasn't sure how the motorized screen would hold up over time. i went with an Alpine iDA-X305s that has a fixed small display for track and album art. Looking forward to putting it in this weekend.

Mechanically, the old one worked perfectly over ~18 months without doing anything silly.

The new one has a different style of mechanism so we will see how that works out.

Ended up getting a 170 degree reversing camera at the same time. Had a few hiccups with shipping address (won't ship to a PO box) but hopefully it will be in the mail by the weekend.

So the 1310 arrived today. DHL tracking shows it was picked up Friday evening and my postie got it lunchtime today. Impressive for free shipping.

About a half hour job to rip out the old Eonon unit and fit this one. I very nearly reused the adapter loom from the old unit, but on close inspection the wiring is totally different :/

An interesting problem cropped up pretty quickly - the metal arms that make up part of the display mechanism interfere with the molding around the head unit, so the display won't open up to a viewable angle. For now I am just leaving the unit unlatched in the mounting cradle - it is a pretty tight fit. Needs further consideration as to whether I space the cradle forwards, or file a couple of clearance slots in the dash. In all honesty I think the 'temporary' solution may be a lot more permanent

It is early days yet, but the software is a lot more refined and consistent though I have to say I don't like the GPS software load. Happily, being a cheap Chinese device you are fully flexible to fit your own software load. I have transferred the iGO 8 load from old unit. Being a Windows CE based GPS, you can also run oziExplorer.

Still need to route the camera wiring, but I might go have a quick play with it anyway. Can't resist new shiny things

And showing my usual stunning aptitude for engage brain before mouth, I forgot the camera needs 12v and I am not about to start messing with wiring at at this time of night.

ozi does run, and DVD's seem to play ok too. I don't think it will cope with divX, but I will have a crack at it sometime this week.

So the temporary solution became very temporary once the cradle relaxed a bit and the head unit started sliding out from the diesels vibration

I ended up setting the cradle about 5mm proud, and it really isn't obvious.

Couple of minor software issues with the iPod functionality, I can't browse the playlists on the iPod which is a bit of a PITA. The iPod continues to stay powered after the head unit shuts down. This causes the batteries to go flat .

Started pulling the camera cabling last night. Ended up screwing the camera to the high brake light housing. We will see if it is a workable position. Wiring follows the brake light wiring. Fiddly to get it in there and required two 40 thou wire pull-throughs, one from the top centre of the door frame and the other up from the loom feed-through in the door hinge. After pulling out the grommet for the demister wiring, the rest was just a case of being patient and gentle. The brake light hole is just big enough to get the video RCA connector through.

The trick I found to make it all work is to wrap a loop of wire around the center of the RCA connector and a second one around the back of the body. The first loop guides the connector and the second gives something firm to pull on.

For now the camera wiring is bundled up behind the RH bin waiting for me to have time to run it forwards. Still trying to figure out how on earth I am going to manage that. Probably along the sill line, under the drivers seat then up through the center console.

After reading your helpful posts i went and bought the same unit

Ive only spent a few minutes putting the unit in the car and checking power so far. Using the iso harness it all worked fine straight away, except for playing video which gives the warning message about the car being in motion. How did you connect the brake and rear view control wires for this and the camera? (Pink and brown)?

I look forward to hearing how you go with the rear view camera wiring too

I put my reversing camera under the top rear door brake light too - thinking ahead for when I fit double spare wheels and the numberplate is not centred anyway. Works well with the rear bumper in the bottom of the picture for locating where I'm at (mine does not have any parking lines inserted into the screen).
I normally drive with the motorised screen closed (don't have gps), so have to remember to activate the motorised screen opening if I need the reversing camera.

You may not have the same problem as me if you don't listen to AM (old farts radio), but my woeful rception was finally resolved by earthing to my bullbar fitted extension arial plus earthing the cradle AND disconnecting the amplifier for the rear side window in glass arial. Good luck.
I won't be using the dvd whilst driving (but grandies as back seat passengers probably will). Mine has been set up by the installer so the dvd will work as soon as the handbrake is on the first ratchet - just means I have to remember not to adjust the handbrake too tight.

Thanks for the inputs. Mounting the camera high sounds like its a good way to go.

I want the video configured like yours, ie i'm happy for it to be disabled while on the move. Currently though it seems to be disabled all the time so i just need to work out which wire to connect to the handbrake.
