Whats your opinion, White or Black?

I have been pricing the white Defender, as the Hilux is/was the first Black vehicle I have ever owned and it is bloomin HOT.

So I figured Fuji White is the new Black

But I must admit there is nothing better looking than a Black Defender. Is it worth boiling my backside off in summer though?

Is there any pro's to the black having aluminium panels or is it still like a furnace on hot days?

I would love to hear some feedback from Black and White owners and any in between.

I was picturing Fuji White with the windows from 2nd row back tinted out at 5% and 20 or 35% up front, I'm guessing this will be the coolest option. Your thoughts???

    Regards,

    Babs.

I was wanting a white D90 when I chanced across the metallic silver one I bought. I prefer lighter colours for the heat reflective property but I suspect it's not as big an issue as I think. To be honest I think the new Def's have decent air con and the vertical windows minimise sun impact, so get decent tint on as many windows as you can and enjoy. Choose the colour you like most.

Well my 110 is Black and I can't say its a hole heap hotter than any other color.

Personally white would be the last color I'd buy, but that's just me.

If you like black then go with it. I'm sure you could argue that Java black is metallic and therefore the silver particles will reflect some of mr sunshine away from the car thus giving you some cooling effect, though not as much as the coolness you'll feel from driving the black beast!!!

My black TD5 has been over several of the Aussie Deserts and I've never been above gas mark 2

Anyway, all this chat about most cooling color is a bit irrelevant for 2007 vehicles onwards, their aircon works!!!!

I had a dark red 80 series, the a/c was running flat out anywhere west of victoria, I painted the roof white with a hardware shop pressure pack and the a/c only needed to go on low.

As a result the only color I considered when buying my current Defender was white, if I had any other color i would defenetly paint the roof white.

Mine is not black.. it's bronze with a black roof.. and on hot days it's like an oven.. just saying..

I like the white Defenders.. they looks smart and I am thinking you wouldn't notice marks like Lantana pin striping half as much on a white car..

I've had black, blue, silver and white cars - white cars are noticeably cooler. A black car always looks dirty - silver and white cars just don't show the dirt as much. The problem I have with silver car is that in dappled light ( going through forest roads etc, the silver makes them "camouflaged" against the road surface.

One thing that makes a big difference is the white plywood sheet in the roof rack - the tropical roof effect makes my Defender much cooler.

Tinted windows also make a huge difference. Driving a car along the SE freeway in the morning without tinted windows requires good air con, but with the tinted windows in my Defender, I don't even use the aircon.

Which is why I would pick a flat colour for a 4WD. The wifes old disco 2 was burgundy and would look horrible after a drive out
