    driving light mounting

    Hi Guys,

Got hold of a set of Hella driving lights over the weekend.

What is the best mounting method if you don't have a bull-bar?

    Cheers

search on Disco3 ofr DuallyD2, there was a thread covering what I thought was a rather smart & unbobtrusive solution using standrd mounting points.

Looks neat but I think you'd get a lot of vibration with a heavy light like a Hella. Attaching stays to the tops of the lights may help if you can find a way to attach them.

Somewhere on the Disco3 site is another thread showing some 4000FFs mounted using the LR mounts through the bumper and a bit of angle. These looked quite solid but meant the lights were a fair way forward.

Link to gallery here: DISCO3.CO.UK Photo Gallery - D4 Hella HID Aux Lamps

The Journey of Discovery Discos had Hella Predators mounted on the bumper, but I can't tell how they did it.

    Cheers,
    Jon

You may want something like these, designed specifically for driving lights for vehicles without mounting points

I mounted the switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel column it is a crap spot to get to but as they will be wired into the high beams (have to by law) all you have to do is leave them on and they will automatically come on with the high beams activated. The other spot is to put it into the light switch console but you will need a small switch.

Thanks Julian. I had a quick look here at work, and found a nice small round switch that should fit on the right side of the steering wheel, in the same area as the main light switch....

I will post some pictures when i get it all done.

    So the lights are on!!!!

Pretty happy with them, even though they are only basic 100W units.

I took my time with the installation so it was as tidy as possible. I had to trim the mounting bar to it didn't set the front parking sensors off all the time.

    Cheers

Hey Ben, looks good - can you post a pic of your switch and do you find the lower position of the lights impacts their throw?
    Cheers,
