Question D3 Driver's Door Not Locking

My 2005 D3 HSE will not lock the driver's door. It sounds like the mechanism is operating but the door doesn't lock.

    • All other doors lock correctly.
    • There is no warning sounded when locking to indicate one of the doors may be ajar.
    • Tried locking it twice to see if that would help.
    • Can't find the other key to try that. We put it in the secret hiding place and can't recall the secret.

Any suggestions as to what else I could try? Is it easy to remove the door panel to check the mechanism? Is there an option setting that may have been inadvertently activated that I can undo?

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.

Opened the driver door, thinking the car was unlocked. The door opened but the alarm went off and that's when I realised I hadn't actually unlocked the car.

A couple of lock-unlock tests proved that everything was locking except for the driver door.

Called LR Assist and after running through a computer reset procedure (Lock-Unlock 3 times), they confirmed what I'd suspected - the door lock actuator was probably faulty. Even though it sounded like it was working, it actually wasn't.

This was later confirmed by an authorised LR repairer and was covered by warranty.

In the meantime, I locked the driver door from the inside by reaching across from the passenger side to push in the door lock lever. The rest of the car was then locked using the key fob as normal. Bit of a pain but did the job until repair was done.

    Cheers

Common problem on the D3 with the actuator and not an expensive fix

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

Peter. I didn't think of that but will use it until I can get it fixed.

Julian. Is it something I can do myself or do I need a repairer to plug in his magic box afterwards?

I have the LR3 repair manual but I couldn't find the relevant section. I'll have a proper RTFM look.

Had the same with our rear offside door. Was found by accident. You can't test it walking up with key in your pocket with keyless entry as everything unlocks when you touch it. A friend walked up and opened the car door, alarms went off etc. Same thing failed actuator.

    Quoted $125 for the part

Just happened to my drives door. Mine will unlock but will not lock the drivers door with the key fob. I guess 8 years and 260,000km is a fairly good effort for that part.

Quoted $125 for the part plus 2 to 2.5 hours work. The nice people mentioned that the window control bits might need to me removed to give access to the actuator. The service people also mentioned that the VIN of the car would determine which of a few actuators was needed. The most common one was the price quoted for me.
Door lock actuator replacement - Land Rover Forums : Land Rover and Range Rover Forum has information on second hand parts from the UK. Not sure if this is of interest given the time and possibility the type might not suite my D3.
