Typically between 20 to 25 litres per 100km but it can be better or worse depending on how it is driven, how well the gas mixture is controlled (electronic mixture control or not) , how it is tuned, and how much external junk you have screwed to the truck. Roofracks, bullbars and big tyres all add considerably to consumption.

My freshly rebuilt 3.9 V8 in a Disco 1 returns 20 to 22 litres per hundred. It was about the same before the rebuild but it makes better power for the same economy and is much better when towing than it was.

A high compression 4.6 with a gas cam would run rings around a stock, worn 3.9. If it's done properly it will be better conumption too.

Out of interest what is the best system to fit to a 3.9? and what is the best size under body tanks you can buy without hanging down to low?
I am thinking of going to gas.
    Cheers Pete

Best always depends on the competence of your chosen fitter. I make up my own kits as there isn't a commercial kit available that has all the elements I demand. I won't go into length here, once you have found a fitter in your area, pm me if you have any specific requests.

As for gas tanks, two small 35 litre tanks fitted to the petrol tank location are the only decent way of converting these. You will have approx. 70 litres of LPG and whatever petrol capacity you can get in an auxiliary tank. In this day and age I would suggest contacting wreckers yards, especially in Melbourne as this stuff is too expensive to justify buying new if good second hand parts can be had for a fraction of the price.

Hi mate, I have an 01 d2 v8 Thor, on long trips to the farm I get 12.3L/100 normal driving I get slightly higher but still under 13L/100, I've been told by many now this is exceptional and isn't typical, last week I got a 13.4L/100 but I was doin a lot of dirt road driving and about 10-15 km in low range, I leave for jervis bay tomorrow towing my 14ft boat so when I get there I will post my km and how many litres I used to get there, mind you due to the tiny tiny wheels on my trailer I will only be sitting 80-90kmh so hopefully this will off set me towing my boat and my economy will be about 12.8L/100 I'm guessing so we will see how good of a guess I am lol or arnt hahahaha
