Install of 2nd battery wiring and accessory sockets

I’m about to install a second (leisure) battery and a Traxide controller under my passenger seat in my 2010 110. I’ll be running cable to the rear for a couple of 12v accessory sockets (fridge, a camping light, mainly) and also an Anderson plug for connecting to a camper trailer, also fitted with a battery.

Where are people running the cable from the battery compartment into the rear load area, and also to the tow hitch area? Underneath the car, I presume?

Also where/ how are you mounting the 12v accessory sockets? I’ve been supplied the panel-mounted type. Presume in the side plastic trim piece in the rear?

Is it possible to remove this plastic panel to gain access to the area behind for installing wiring?

I have 2 sockets each side of the sliding window in the rear of my 110, there is plenty of space for cables behind the plastic, and enough depth in the right area to have recessed sockets.

The surround comes of relatively easy with a few screws and some clips holding it on, then a bit of brute force.

I run my cable from the battery box to a fuse box on the back of my drawer, it came along the chassis rail and then round the outside of the middle row seat area and in through the side with one of those waterproof nut/grommet things. Can see it clearly from the wheel arch but I think it is safe and out of the way, hard to explain, I will try and take a photo and post. My only issues is I removed the drawer system after our last trip as it got in a mess with breakages (beer and water).

Now I have the fusebox and the 12v remote relay box in a bag just hanging under the middle row of seats, I still have to find someway to permanently mount it unless I just decide to keep the drawer in all the time.

Do the sockets face upwards or outwards?

Thats the problem with having a 7-seater with no drawer setup … there’s nowhere to ‘hide’ any of this stuff. Maybe I’ll mount a little electrical terminal/fuse box somewhere discreet.

Also I guess it has to be up off the floor so it doesn’t get bashed around by gear in the back…?

I have added the photos, I have 7 seats but as you will see from the photo I removed them for the drawer, and now I have the choice what to put back in, but as I am renovating my bathroom I am using is as a work horse at the moment so no rush.

I will eventually just replicate the back panel of the drawer and mount the fuse box to that, it will be able to stay in no matter what I have in, either drawers or the seats. just have to figure out how now, but it will face the middle row seats so will be safe from moving objects, I will probably mount a mini sub to it also. Ideas going through my head now, but the car is off limits until the bathroom is tiled..

Hmmm, socket location looks very close to where my CRAB bar (child restraint bar) is...

Notice also you ran cabling within conduit... probably not a bad idea.

Another thing i noticed (from another thread) is there's a procedure for when i disconnect the battery for the install, or the immobiliser may be affected

Hi Samblers

It is best practice to run the cable in some suitable conduit, I ran mine from the battery box along the right hand side chassis, and then up through the rear light enclosure,



I managed to fit a standard socket in the enclosure, and then a screw in style panel mount socket for an engel fridge, I have these both sides of the vehicle



I have attached some pics of the wiring along the chassis, as you can see it is dirty but all protected in conduit, i have two cables running to the back one for the rear interior and one to supply the camper trailer to charge the battery and any accessories.





One regret I have is not running a spare cable to the back, as over time your requirements change and doing this would have given me another option.

I got the glands from bunnings, about a $1 each, split conduit from supercheap.

this is the location I ended up on for the accessory socket(s)... Wires will come up through body by the rear light cluster and the install can be done and wired without removing the main side panel trim
