Its Started, somethings wrong after day at Zig Zag

Had a great day today with the forum members at Lithgow, but as we were driving out and I was shifting back to high range my lever almost pulled all the way out, I could move it in and out, as I drove off it seemed to lock in, but now that I'm home I found a leek dripping like a leaky tap, and it seems to be coming from the top of the gearbox somewhere.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

I am assuming that the two have something to do with each other.

What appears to be dripping, I only ask as my aircon drips water onto the top of the gearbox and runs down the drivers side to the ground when the airconditioning has been on.

The drain for the condenser (if thats the item in behind the dash) must sit above it.

Or is it some kind of lubricant/oil, if it is I have no idea.

    Hopefully its the drain!

Obviously that won't be the cause of the lever issue though.

the lever if similar to d2 uses cable linkages under the high/low stick to make the changes so can only think one of the connections has come loose.
grab a sample of the leak, it it tastes ok it is likely the aircon drain, if it tastes like transmission fluid is probably just that.

good to meet and hope you get it sorted.

Babs, just ring road side assist and get it flat bedded to the dealer. Trying to rectify stuff yourself under warranty is not what it's about. Yes it's frustrating, but no shame in it either.

    x 2 !

As a side note, I have only good things to say about the service that I've received from my dealer. I've had a small number of issues and any genuine warranty issues have been fixed promptly and with out fuss. I cannot fault their service and they have always been understanding, respectful and polite even when the problem was "user error" (like the time I thought that my traction control didn't work). I hope that your dealer experience will be as good as mine.

Diagnosis - Gearbox front output shaft seal was leaking, now replaced. It must have splashed oil around which mixed with water dripping from the top of the gearbox, which made me think the leak was coming from on top of the gearbox.

All fixed up ready for the next trip

good to hear, just a lousy seal.

You know I thought I have the same concern once upon a time. An oil leak from around the front of the gearbox. Asked the guys to check it out whilst getting serviced, and bugger me they pulled a sausage out from top of the G box. Have no idea how it got there, but I had been cooking if for a while and it got hot enough to sizzle and drop fat over the front of the box which looked like oil stain.

Do you usually have your transmission fluid straight or use it as a mixer?

Is that where my lunch got to?

Babs - how did your dealer explain the shift lever moving up and down due to an oil seal?
