hi I bought my 1993 disco the friday before christmas, the guy i got it off had put a new water pump in it had nice clean water in it everything looked gud, on the way home it was noted that the temp gauge went up to three quarters immediately and a red light started flashing so i rang him up, he said the sender was faulty and i shudnt worry, yeah rite, local Landy dealer sed it needed a new rad so did the rad specialist both wanted over $700 just for a new rad plus fitting, ouch! by this time i had already bought a new thermostat,one that had 20% more flow, cos the old owner was old skool and in his seventies so i thort he may have removed the old one(my dad liked doing this) he hadnt as it turned out, but the new one fixed the problem, the dealer told me that the gauge shud have the needle on half way with it going its own width further under load, which it now does,the thing is ,i went to check the oil after I had been out in it, and the dipstick was so hot it burned my fingers, my question is, is this normal? i am thinking of adding another smaller rad into the system to increase the cooling,i am looking at a td5 intercooler and mounting it on the return side of the rad so that it cools already cooler water,I dont need to be told that I was silly for checking it hot by the way, but when the minister for war says check it ,I check it, duz any body think it not a gud idea to add the extra cooling john
