    Clutch-switch shorting, re-anodising, & waxoyling Updates

Hi Team - first the re-anodising update. Here is what I started with when I received the truck about a month ago:

    Here are some after-shots:

Very happy with how it came up (didn't do the footsteps as they weren't so bad and are high wear).

The Puma I found a little difficult to drive with the gear changes due to the engine management system - perversely I was pleased to learn today that it wasn't just me but quite a few Puma drivers that seem to have this problem. A fix is to short (loop) the clutch switch and as the truck happened to be in with the mechanic they kindly put a loop in for me. No more bunny-hopping. Interestingly they think my truck has been remapped because of its power but it doesn't show up as such on the diagnostic tool.

Finally, the waxoyling has been done and with 2 cans of oil and 2 cans of another underbody spray it wasn't cheap ($35 per can and 3 hours labour) but is great peace of mind to know its now done (esp as a UK import).

Now my m-m4x4 tubular winch bar just needs to turn up, and to add 2 more inward facing tip-up rear seats.

am I right to think that the looping method is something I should try out?? now to locate the switch!!! how is it now on low/high speed driving? so long as it shifts as a normal car would while maintaining its anti stall I'll be happy!

Much more car like for me, and up the farm drive in high first the anti-stall worked perfectly.

Fantastic. Now to locate the switch and do the loop when I get the defender back! It's currently at the dealership but I dont know how asking them to short a wire out for me would go through! lol

Well if it's not under warranty...otherwise could be tricky.

It does show up on a diagnostic tool if the DTC history has not been cleared after the car is remapped. If you use the alien tech remap interface for remapping between OEM and mapped before dealer visits it is best to clear the DTC history of both the EMS and IPAC. Unfortunately the alien tech box does not allow access into the IPAC!!! If it has been remapped at a map supplier they would have cleared all DTC's before letting you leave their premises and as such won't show up on a diagnostic tool including IDS ( I don't have the newer SDD tool so can't comment on its functions). The biggest tell tale for a remap is saved in the IPAC DTC histoy, it is DTC's:

C001 - 88 High Speed CAN Communication Bus
    C100 - 87 Lost Communication With ECM
C401 - 68 Invalid Data Received from ECM.
    F000 - 46 Control Module Error

These DTC's gets logged because the comms over the CANBUS are interrupted to allow the mapping tool to write a new fuelling file onto the EMS. The EMS will also log a couple of untested DTC's and these are common to using anything that gets plugged into the OBDII socket which interrupts the CANBUS and serial comms between modules.

    EMS DTC's
P068A - 00 Engine control module (ECM) power relay deenergized - too early
P0606 - 49 Engine control module (ECM) processor internal electronic failure
    P1643 - 87 Controller area network (CAN)link engine control module/transmission control module circuit/network

You may not see all of the above DTC's at the same time but a combination off which leads you to know whether or not the defender is remapped or not.

They had blue diagnostic tool with handles moulded in. Beyond that I have no idea.
