Fog & problems seeing anything.

The last 2 trips in Thomas have both encountered severe visibility issues. The trip to Whiteman park a few weeks ago was going well until I reached the Lakes Area of the Great Eastern Hwy, then not only could I see out of any of the exterior mirrors, but the windows inside fogged up then the wiper stopped it's steady sweep of the drivers screen, although the motor was still plodding away.

Managed to find a safe spot to pull off & viability was down to metres. Tightened the clench nut of the wiper arm & the wiper was good again, but the misting problems was still there. A couple of kms on and all cleared. For the next trip to Gingin I did coat all internal windows with washing up liquid & rubbed until crystal clear - this takes a lot of rubbing. Did the same with the mirrors. Encountered the same fog in the same place but found the misting not quite so bad, but still not good.

Then saw an ad in the Quokka for Malz & this 12v Ceramic heater:



Works a treat when plugged into the ciggy lighter socket, so hopefully will solve the problem & can also be swiveled to act as a leg warmer, or side window demister. Now I know why the UK LRSOC had a group buy of heated windscreens - who needs that in Western Australia I thought - wrong. Cheers Nigel

So how much did it cost to open up a new driving experience - being able to see. I rubbed clear DeeDee's windscreen a few times this morning just crawling along the Kwinana carpark (Freeway). The times the cloth wasn't rubbing at the windscreen it was rubbing the at the steering wheel to remove that sticky grease that seems to sweat out of it in damp and cold conditions. Must get around to fitting the steering wheel cover I bought.

$24 & some change. Worth every cent, and I too have a steering wheel cover to fit. It took me 3 hours or so to do the Defender 110 leather cover - black thread on black leather in a not too bright shed led to some frustrating times. Used the camping headlight in the end. Driving gloves is the interim go! But you have a heater & demister in your series 2? That's a truly modern bonus.

No no. No heater or demister in my S2a. Just the cloth in my hand or the driving gloves - pretty much the same recipe as you.

Take your door tops off you big girls. No problem with fogging up screens then!

It was a refreshing drive at 5:15 this morning on the way to work!

I sympathize with you John. I've tried every rag known to man, from handkerchief to microfibre, & every wives tale, from potatoes to fairy liquid. Nothing beats a bit of heat. Funnily enough it's OK with the bonnet removed. Andy not a good suggestion with the door tops removed as the dog tends to escape then, and I'd miss all those rattles. Also makes no difference with the sliding windows fully open except for the good sideways vision.
