Few question re new D4, please help.

Picked up my D4 last week, it is a very capable car. but I have a few questions I wish someone here can assist:
    1. The front ‘passenger airbag off’ light is on for a few seconds every time I start the car and then goes off. Is this normal? By reading the manual, I seem to think this indicate that the passenger airbag is off.

Does this happen to your D4?
    2. I noticed a bit of engine noise, like a metal scathing sound, when I accelerate hard or go up a hill. Is this normal for diesel engines?

    Thanks

    2.7 or 3.0?

The airbag light is a normal thing at startup - as long as it doesn't stay on.

In answer to your other question, while the diesels are great, they're still diesels and have a small amount of clatter on acceleration along with a soft whistle from the turbo(s). It's normal. Apparently there is a bit less clatter with the 3.0.

I don't hear anything under load that isn't awesome*, but as Rich says, it's a diesel and sings in a different accent.

(Last car was a 300Tdi Defender and Ive long learned to love the reassuring rattle of a diesel)

You can definitely hear the turbo in the 3.0, but not much clatter.

And the airbag light is normal; if it stays on, you might have disabled the airbag for front baby capsule.

I believe only earlier models had the ability to turn of the air bag. The later ones had this feature deleted as it is not compliant with ADR's.

IIRC it's a key operated mechanism at the end of the dash, which is hidden by the passenger door when close. I think I took a look when I got the car home a few months ago (MY13); not sure if it will be deleted in MY14, but that's not out yet.

Edit: Mea culpa; checked today, and the area is blanked in the MY13. The loom is still there, but no switch.

Is not on my 07 RRS - stickers are there but not the activating key mechanism.

With regards to the passenger air bag light, I asked the same question when picking up my new D4, the sales guy informed me this was normal and the system was going through a check. I would be concerned if it stays illuminated.
Not too sure about your engine noise, mine is quite apart from the usual turbo whine. Quite impressed how quite the engine is.
