2003 TD5 Defender Lubing the AC Fan Bearing

I have an annoying squeal coming from the footwell AC fan on my 2003 TD5. It looks like a complete mongrel of a job to physically remove the fan. SO I'm wondering if it's possible to give it a squirt of lube by carefully drilling a hole in the housing. Has anyone done this? Or perhaps does anyone have a breakdown of what the bearing in that fan looks like.

Alternatively is there a simple method for pulling the fan without completely removing the AC unit including degassing it etc...

You should be able to remove the fan without taking out the A/C unit. Remove the under glove box cover, the 4 bolts and a few plugs and it should slide out to the left.
