this can happen quite often Im told, It usually signifies that the Gearbox computor has gone in to limp home mode (4th if in high range, and the last selected gear in low range). It happens on mine if I select gear as soon as she fires,,,,ALA LeMans start ops: , I have also had it do it a few times for no apparant reason, though always on start up. If I turn her off and wait 10secs or so she will have cleared the fault 8) ....I guess the computer gets a bit confused if you wake it up to quickly :? A bit like me 8O

It happens if you switch the ignition off while still in gear.

My 2001 Disco used to do that when it was new. I switched it off, got out , locked her up, waited 10 seconds and got back in. No more dramas. It hasn't happened since and I now take a little longer in the time between unlocking and starting the car.
