    Independent Servicing and Warranty

    Hi All,

I am sure that many of you get your vehicles serviced by independents. I have a year to run on factory warranty and may well add the extra 2 years as well. That seems to be recurring advice from the forum.

I have serviced it with the dealer so that all i's are dotted if there is ever a problem under warranty. My experience with the dealer has not been particularly inspiring.

So, has anybody had any issues with warranty being fullfilled if your vehicle has been serviced independently?

If I do go with an independent, do I need to be asking them to use genuine parts, until it is out of factory warranty , just to be safe?

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Aulro has been a great source of information for me and I appreciate the time that everyone takes to answer peoples queries.

I would be inclined to grab a copy of the Pds for the extended warranty, and that I gather should give you the facts with regard to genuine parts or not.
At the end of the day, if they can prove the non genuine fuel filter caused your power windows to stop working.....then they can refuse the claim.....if they can't, they are legally obligated to meet the warranty repair.

Brett is totally correct but there is likely to be a long and drawn out headbutting exercise if you get into dispute - if you continue to get it serviced at a dealer there is less likely to be drawn out.

Yes you may be right but you may have to prove it in a legal sense.

    Never had an issue ever.

My last D2a,my D4,and my son's Puma all went to an independent, never went to a dealer for servicing.

They all went back to the dealer for the occasional thing, everything was done,no questions asked.
In fact the Puma had some things done to it in the last week of warranty,by the dealer, that i thought was over and above what was warranty.Anyway, all done no charge.

The independant i use here has a very good reputation with the dealer,so that would probably help if an issue came up.

And no, they generally don't use genuine parts.Only if they can't source good quality parts elsewhere.

The most important thing if you use an independent,is find one that is good and knows these vehicles, and therefore uses the correct fluids, etc.

The dealers burnt me around '02,'03,so i keep well away from them.

Oh,the extended warranty i had on my D2a,the independent charged them direct, did not have to go to the dealer.Even though it was bought(the warranty) through the dealer.
If i was taking out extended on the D4,i would see if it 'has' to go to the dealer or not.You may be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks folks, that is good info and reassuring.

Now, I just have to do some research on local independents to find someone good to look after it for the long term.

I found Coffs Harbour 4WD Centre to be really helpful when I was in Coffs.
They know their Landrovers and came recommended.
