R/R CHASSI

Hi all I finally bit the bullet and bought a 1989 R/R Chassi and running gear today !!!! So the new project is now in it's embryonic stage. My question is has anyone got any measurements on what is required to fit Defender components and the TD5 engine? As I plan to build a kick a@#E Defender Hybrid!!!!!!!!! 8)

Sounds like a great project.
Sorry I dont have the info you need, but I am sure someone here will have it.

Good lordy, this is gonna be one BIG project - the TD5 has drive-by-wire throttle control, and fancy electronics so it's gonna require a computer wiz in addition to a mechanical minded person to make this happen.

Perhaps you are better off with a TDi engine. Like that 2.8 litre Powerstroke engine that's built in Brazil from LR design.

But if you do go ahead with it, please let us know how you get along!

There goes the rest of the change in your wallet.

Sounds like a great project but the TD5 thing could set you back as noted above.
Would hate to see the project fail or be abandoned because of a little detail like that so whatever you decide to do with the engine - keep at it :!:

and keep us up to date with details and pics ?

Oh and I'd be interested to know where you got the chassis and running gear and the cost. PM me if you would prefer not to post. Ta.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Thanks guy's I know what you mean though!!!!!!! It's a project that I haven't gone in blind at 8) I have a back up plan if the TD5 dosen't come to fruision!!!!!!!! I'll either look at a 300TDI or if I can source A Perentie V8 power plant???? A mates Dad own's a wrecking yard, and he picked up the whole car quite cheap, stripped all the good bit's but I cauhgt it before the running gear went!!!!
Vlad I didn't pay that much actually $1200.00 plus a S11a gearbox, I have to find some wheels first as the project is cyrrently minus wheels!!! Small detail!!!!!

G'day Crawfy - welcome to the club!!!

Now remember your budget, then double it then you may get your vehicle you wanted!!!

Mine started out as a 1984 RR with all running gear, D110 firewall and the rest of the body was Series III.

Now is ALL D110 body / V8 3.9 EFI / ZF Auto with BW transfer and still a couple of years away from finishing!!!

We should keep in touch to share ideas and websites on the matter.

Lrhybrid sounds good!!!!!!!! I'm quite sure my project will be a few years in the shed, as I now have to come up with the power plant and the gearbox so that I can then get the measurments right!!!!!!!!!!!!
Must admit that picture is a fine pic pretty much what I'm after 8) So let's stay in touch, I still want to buy those 300tdi hoses and bit's

Hybrid

Gday Crawfy,
I too am building a Hybrid Landy. I will be dropping in the V8 though. If you go to the BlackStump site and look in the members list for DAS, he has started a Hybrid also, I dont think he has the TD5 but I could be wrong, he helped me out with the measurements for mine so far, I will try to find the ones he has sent me, or you can e-mail him and just ask.
This is the address for the BB but it should have a link to the members list.

Hope it helps

G'day Guys,

Yep - know DAS well and I've seen Tigger his Project D90.

However, think DAS has also changed his plans now and also building a D100 - better compromise of D110 and D90.

Think DAS is around on AULRO also - if not I can get in touch with him.

Lets keep in touch,
