Polaris RZR, anyone have?

I'm thinking of buying an RZR900, something a little safer to play fast in the bush, good to strap a kid in for a play aswell, just trying to find people who have them to see what they think

We have a dealer near by that sells them, and they look to be an amazing piece of kit.. I looked seriously at them as we were thinking of taking on an Arctic Cat dealership roll. We didn't due to this type of vehicle being a competitor to something we supply. What I did learn tho is that the Arctic Cat "Wildcat" is better priced, now has good backing in Australia and has a slightly longer wheelbase making it more stable over the rough at speed.. If I had the choice I'd buy the Wildcat over the RZR. Just my opinion.

Cheers, there is a few RZR900 XP's around second hand could prob snaffle towards 15K, no arctic cats about though, if I use it enough I'll buy a new XP1000 or Arctic cat though

Whatever side-by-side/utv you buy will have a CVT transmission to put up with... (I think they are horrible), so that's something to keep in mind.

Wow Will controversy seems to follow your comments where ever you go.

I have a Kawasaki 700 with a CVT transmission since brand new 2004. Has not missed a beat can be ridden by anyone at any age young or old is fine in water gives no trouble.

Have you owned one Will?

I would highly recommend simple as. Only maintenance check the belt deflection at 100 hours and replace. About 60 bucks. Much Much less hassle than chain and sprockets. I have owned and do own all sorts of them.On the topic Rovercare the Canams come highly regarded they are also another one to consider for the right price.

My brother has owned the more utility version of the Polaris RZR for a number of years and has not given any problems.
They would be a good bit of fun to drive around in. The AORA has a class for them now, and they have been entered in the Dakar also.
The CVT transmission has been used in one disguise or another in snowmobiles for decades. Never heard of the CVT's giving any major problems. And what does both Can Am and Polaris use to make and still do make - snowmobiles. I would not be worried about the transmissions.

I've had 3 actually

A Yamaha Grizzly 350 CVT, a Polaris 250 CVT and my brother and i had a Chinese buggy a few years ago when we were kids.

I never said anything about reliability, I just said they're horrible to use and operate ("put up with"), the Yamaha is fantastic for weed spraying around the farm, the Polaris used **** loads of fuel as it was always near full revs (I've ripped it apart and the wheels and macpherson struts are on my new buggy), and the old Chinese buggy along with the other 2 are pretty darn rubbish at taking off under any form of load (don't even bother trying to unload dead sheep from the trailer by accelerating... You have to pull the bastards out!)

Personally I like a manual trans, and I'm definitely not a fan of CVT's after the experience with those 3, they are ok for work, and seem reliable enough, but no fun at all. My buggy has an FZS600 Yamaha road bike motor and it will leave elevensies on the black top spinning 24x12 ATV muddies. Here's a picture of the buggy showing the Polaris front end and stupidly massive rear tyres(it's not finished yet, especially after yesterday's rollover..)

I've had 3 Polaris 4 wheelers with CVT transmissions . Love them . Simple, easy to use and mainly trouble free. Anybody can ride one. Don't have to know how to change gears. Even my wife who only drives auto cars can ride them. Had them for 10 years on our dairy farm . So I don't know what Will is on about. But then each to there own. Would never go back to a manual gearbox on a 4 wheeler or a side by side.

Can recommend both Polaris & Can-Am. I still have 2 of my 3 Polaris's. Have also test ridden Can-Am's & would be happy to buy these too.

My problem is that I like changing gears and having constant drive, so it's only a personal preference
