SAGGING ROOF LINING

G'Day,

I am about to buy a 94 Disco TDi - I hope. One problem that it does have is the roof lining has all sagged and needs to be put back up. I am lead to beleive that this is a pretty common problem. I am in Brisbane and want to know if anyone can recommend someone who repairs the probem at a reasonable price or how hard is it to tackle the repairs yourself - anyone had a go and got any tips?

G'day Scott,
Its definately something you do see on discos. There is a post on the topic in here somewhere, it might come up in a search. A few years ago now i had a car repeared for this and it was about $150. I think Big Bugger had a simple fix involving upholstery screws on the original posting. For the cheapies, thumbtacks work aswell.

g'day scott,
the problem you've got is a common one, my mate even has it in a 97 defender ute. the problem has arisen from the material they've used for the roof lining. it is foam backed and the foam has deteriorated causing the vinyl part to fall away. your best bet, if you dont know someone is to find a motor trimmer or upholsterer, and pay them to fix it with out using a material that's likely to do the same thing. i know land rover have offered to fix my mates' roof but the pronlem is that it will probably just happen again in about 6 yrs. good luck with it anyway

Its a common problem that goes back well into the eighties (and probably earlier).

I did my Range Rover in the mid 80s - Carefully take the roof lining out disgard (well I did) the material after carefully peeling it off liberally cover the backing material with contact adhesive (let it soak in) and then stick on new roof lining. Wait to dry and refit to vehicle, handle with care as its rather fragile.
