How to unbolt 90 mudflaps?!

The bolts go between the rear crossmember and chassis and I can't see how to secure the nut on top so the bolt can be undone...have TF bumperettes to fit. Help!

The nuts are a standard hexagonal shape punched into the metal of the rear cross member, some earlier model TDCI's (90's) that I have looked at have a hexagonal shaped rivnut.

They stay there when you undo the bolts from the bottom, be care how tight you do them up again (and don't forget to put some anti rust / anti seize on them too.

When you undo the bolts on the outer corners of the crossmember, there is a piece of metal on each side INSIDE the crossmember that the bolts go through....

If I remember correctly, these bolts also hold the support frame for the rear seats or rear seat belts in the TDCI model 90's and fasten them to the chassis.

This metal is a strengthening piece to allow the bolts to be tightened up with out crushing the cross member......

These metal pieces cannot be taken out of the cross member without the body being lifted, however they also cannot be dropped that much further inside the cross member but if they get to much out of place it is a bugger to get them back into place.

If you suffer from fat fingers or are just generally clumsy, it becomes an interesting job......
Ask me how I know......

I have the First Four rear corner protectors on one of my 90's, basically the same as the TerraFirma ones except they have FF cut into them.

I would take some pictures for you of mine, however it broke down today while out at Katoomba (Blue Mountains) and had to be towed.....

Yeah the flap bracket is secured with hex nuts that are 8mm....a body lift is beyond me...angle grinder? Mine is an 08 Puma.

Also, I found out after purchasing the TF bumpertte they are not compatible with the eom rear mudfflaps.

yes thats right, unless you cut a slot in them.

Hey mate

Are you planning on putting on the mudfflaps? Any tips on cutting them to fit with the TF?

I was worried if I cut them, they won't last too long

Looks good, gives a bit of protection and also peace of mind knowing that now the corners aren't so vulnerable to be damaged.
