Automatic locking - a funny thing happened on the way to Melrose

Hi all,
I was happily driving the 2008 TDV6 SE to Melrose for the show, and about a kilometre out of Burra I thought I heard a noise in the back left. Anyway I pulled over and jumped out to have a look. Car is idling and closed driver's door to be safe from traffic.
Nothing obvious making a noise so jumped back into the car ---- BUT the car had locked itself.
So there I am stuck on the road car idling beautifully, fortunately had the mobile in my pocket. Rang for road service, Oh your membership has expired , easy can renew over the phone, credit cards in wallet, wallet in car.
NRMA kindly rang my wife who paid (and had a good go at me later).
RAA came out opened the window, said I was lucky it was running or they could not have done it. Had to reach in and hit the dashboard central unlock button to get the thing unlocked.
The road car has not done this since (or before for that matter). Although if I get out and leave it running, I leave the window down now.
Anyway the question is, has this happened (as in the car locking itself) to anyone or does anyone have an ideas as to why it might have done it?

I had a great time at Melrose by the way and can recommend the SA Land Rover show to everybody.

How did they open the window without damaging the vehicle??

I assume a stiff wire between the door rubber and pushed the button.

In view of your issues I might get a spare key cut to be carried somewhere outside the car so that I can open the passenger door if the car locks.

Never had this happen and have often left the car running and shut the doors, now I am nervous.

Did you have your keys in your pocket? I usually do and if so, maybe the lock button was depressed by accident.

D3 has ignition key and car was running so key was in car.

Mike, could it be a short in the central locking circuit? not sure on the specifics for D3 CL switch though.

My 2013 Defender dual cab with factory option remote central locking also did that to me once. Fortunately at home with the spare keys handy. Since then am worried, specially when on a jungle camping trip many hours from the spare keys! (We live in Malaysia)

We routinely leave windows down, or toss the keys in a box outside the cabin when parked up

When it happened to me: had backed the car down the drive to clean it. Left keys in the ignition. Engine off. Windows all up. Opening and closing doors pulling out rubber mats and replacing. When it happened all other doors were closed and I had only the driver side rear door open. The moment I closed that door all doors locked. As if the lock button on the remote had been pressed. (Not so, the keys were dangling from ignition switch)

The only thing I can put it down to - that door had been giving some trouble, the lock button on the door itself not going smoothly up and down. I may have been half way between and when the door was closed it moved triggering a lock event. But am not sure how that works because if I sit inside and toy with that button it doesn't make all doors lock

Still mystified. Still worried about being locked out of my car by my car!

I did think of that Sean (that is you?or has my brain gone as well), but i would expect a repeat occurrence, so far all good.
On a better note the bluetooth in my aftermarket radio was unintelligible to the person at the other end, two weeks on public access route's and corrugated dirt has apparently shaken something into place and now it works well (but not a land rover thing):-)

A mate (on this forum) told me the story of getting a lift in his son's RRS to a central qld mine. They stopped on the side of the road in the rain to pick up a co-worker and all got out to help with gear.

The car locked with the engine running. They managed to find a bit of fencing wire on the side of the road and flex open the top of the door just enough to get the wire inside. They were then able to open the electric window and open the door.
